    Topic Approved.

Carry the essentials like clutch/ accelerator cables, food, etc. Ensure you are comfortable on your bike, and there has been no recent service done on the bike. Also ensure you have good quality riding gear. Ensure that your helmet does not make wind sound while riding fast. It is really irritating for a long trip.

Take lots of small breaks and maintain 70-80 kmph on most roads, of course, not on crowded ones. Keep the rules in your mind, and use the Rear view mirrors and indicators to the maximum.

Nothing else is required that much. One day I set off for a 580 kms trip on my 5 year old P180, with almost nothing of this. But, nothing happened and I had fun.

And there was really not much of a need to post the bike specs. Most members already know Yamaha SZ.

Good list there. But I guess you won't carry most of those things if going on just a 700km ride (barely 1-2 day ride).

            You might want to add
            Front brake and clutch levers
            Hand Sanitizer

Don't think so much about the front brake lever but yes, the clutch lever is very important if one Is going for tours..
Just think one Fall on the left and your clutch lever is gone!! U have nothing to do except call for help!!

BTW, Hand Sanitizers!!!!!!! I am now thinking.. (considering it's multiple uses)

@Antz, nice suggestion there with the link of safe riding. i myself have learned a lot from the various topics of that link!

Re: Help with pre tour prep

It really also depends where you riding and also if you really are comfortable opening your bike to do fixes

If you have never tried removing puncture and changing other parts its doesnt seem much useful carrying the kits

Also the present crop of bikes take more abuse than we think so worry less and enjoy more.
Also yamaha sz aint that old if i aint wrong so more less the worry for you

If you riding on populated road then help should be at hand

All people have given good lists i dont need to repeat the same you should be able to decide by now
                Dont ride if sleepy
                overtake carefully
Keep the fluids flowing - water
                Do click pics and enjoy

I would advise to use the daylight to the maximum, and if possible try minimizing night riding..
Since riding during the day the help will be there to an extent more than riding at night....

Frankly speaking no; reason being I change the cables every 18K km irrespective of their condition. That was in Rx, CBR being superior, I believe 20K is sufficient.

What's the use of this? Have been hearing this for quite sometime now & haven't felt the necessity. If it's really useful, I can add to my list.

I am not talking about cables (those are already on your list ). I am talking about the levers which can break in the event of a crash and either of them breaking can be a major inconvenience. Since they are just levers, they hardly take up any space. The ones for the P220 easily fit inside the side pocket of my Cramster Turtle with plenty of room to spare for other stuff I might need.

Just a fancy replacement for soap and water, for places you might want to grab a bite, but wouldn't trust the water to be hand-washable OR an emergency situation. In my case, it was invaluable when the need arised in case of an emergency of the no. 2 type between Khardung La and South Pullu.

Ok; haven't thought about those; hopefully I don't need them. I believe there's some place at which a trade off needs to be done as what to & what not to carry; once I got so paranoid that I carried entire toolkit (including special tools to remove clutch assy) for Rx & didn't have to use even a screwdriver. Talking about spares, I think it's better to stick with Bajaj, Hero, Honda, TVS etc products as one can an ASC almost any corner of this country. If the parts are unavailable, we could always request to ship one from our friendly ASC.

This again falls under the above underlined category to me as my principle always has been...carry less, travel light

                              Hi Guys,
These are some great points to keep in mind, thanks a lot! I have done manali to Leh in 2011 on a rented Thunderbird but apart from that i have very little experience on long ride so this will be a good experience. I will be carrying most of the things mentioned by you guys above and make sure it will be a hassle free ride and will keep posted on how is goes and also how the bike and biker performs
                              Cheers!!
