• CBZ Xtreme - Alignment/Issue after accident

Hello xbhp-ians!

This is my first post and I would like to mention that I have always been benefited from the existing threads and never had to post a new one. But this time I had to make a new thread. My bike met with an accident (or I should say, accident met my bike!) and after the repair, I have lost the old good feeling of my bike. Here is the entire story:
The accident
My bike was parked in my office parking lot (on side stand while handle bar was turned towards the right). [Important to mention that there was a wall in front.]
One of my colleague banged my bike with his i10 from rear.
Had to call a mini-truck to lift my bike and take it to the ASC. The bike wasn't in position to move at all (as forks, rim, hand bar, etc were bend..)
The Repair
1. I instructed the service center guys to completely replace the damage parts and avoid fixing anything/bend removal.
2. Got my bike back after 10 days and total bill was 18,191/-
3. Parts replaced
1. Front: Doom/visor, headlight, fork assembly (both right and left), front alloy, Disc, Handlebar, Crash guard, front stay (the weird looking iron stand which holds the doom and speedometer) mudguard, etc...
2. Rear: Tail light assembly, Cowl (both right & left)

The Problem
1. When I ride the bike, I feel the bike is tilted towards left slightly.
2. The handle sways towards the left when i take off my hand from the handle bar.
3. When i ride the bike on bad roads, i feel the bike is not stable and sways towards left and right rapidly/continuously.
4. When I cross a speed breaker, the front shock makes thud noise, handle sways left and right for a moment. I also feel that front wheel suddenly hits the road and then shocks comes to action.
5. When i apply disk break suddenly and bring the bike to halt, bike skids and goes towards right (have noticed it few times)

Overall, i am not happy with the bike after the repair. The pleasure of riding the beast has completely gone! Have complained to service center guys several times but they don;t feel any alignment issue with the bike. They say its all in mind! But i know something is wrong. I have been riding it for 3 years.. Please help me guys. What could be the possible issues

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

First : welcome to xBHP thread

Second : Did you do visual inspection of your rear tyre and front wheel alignment after you got it back from svc station. Since the impact was from rear and that your bike was pressed against wall, there is a very high chance that your frame itself is bent.

Check this link and let us know the outcome...Do It Yourself, Motorcycle Frame Check

Third : Check for tyre wobble and handle bar health... is it dead parallel to the ground ?

Thanks for your reply bro! I did the visual inspection as best as i could and everything looked good to me except the doom assembly. Regarding the chassis bend, i had the same concern but the SVC manager rejected it saying . its fine, its fine. Thanks for the DYI link.. the procedure looks very complicated but I'll try to do it.

Dont worry. The other simple way is to run the bike tyres in puddle of water and then run it on dry cement floor to get the tread marks. This will give you the best visual record of whats wrong. I constantly check my bikes tread marks when ever I slip on something (climbing speed breakers on wrong angle, slipping on stones, pot holes etc). Just keep handle straight (your best perception) and try the above method. If it shows any misalignment, scr*w the SVC stn manager, write a strong email to Hero and change svc station. Lot of desi shops nowdays clear this issue.

The other method looks simpler! I will definitely try it tomorrow and will let you know how it went.

Another thing i don't understand why mechanics at svc are not able to smoothly replace a part, especially the fiber ones. I changed the entire doom assembly (along with the stand which holds the doom and speedo), but i can see a lots of gaps here and there. Its no where close to stock fitting.

Branded svc station mechanics are spoilt lot. They dont have to search for business, business comes searching for them. In my experience, I have met more experienced and passionate road side mechanics (with less or no educational qualification) doing a awesome job. But one good thing about branded shops is that you have the opportunity to escalate and send feedback. Send it to one who can take action on them.

Hey Prith, I haven't had chance to verify if the chassis is bent or not using the methods you suggested, but i'll try to do it this weekend. Do you think the issue could also be because of T-stem? I think it was replaced during the repair but one of the local mechanic i showed my bike to claims its not new!

Also, is there any xbhp-ian in Bangalore who would like to meet me to see my bike and identify the issue? I know this it is too much to ask.. but that will really help me.. I am really irritated and have burned enough money. Please help me out guys..

first check if the cone set is not too tight or too loose, sometimes this also happens due to cone set. also check the swingarm for any problems.

Re: CBZ Xtreme - Alignment/Issue after accident

Hi Guys,

I would like to know if the issue with Alignment has been fixed with his bike or does he still have the issue.

I also have the same issue of Alignment with my 2007 CBZ Xtreme. I haven't met with any kind of accident or anything but these days I can feel Bike tires go haywaire. I stay in Hyderabad & I have nearly went to every mechanic i these past 4 years to get it corrected but every one has failed. It rides well for a few days & then it comes back to its issue again.

I have done visual inspection & the other method suggested by "Prith". I have also gone through the DIY steps but I don't find any wrong with the bike.

This is my last attempt of getting my bike back to form as I have decided to sell the bike if this also doesn't work.

I'm just hoping for the best as I like this bike very much as it's my first bike with my hard earned money.

Thanking you all in advance.

sandeepvud, change the swingarm bushes as well as the rubber grommets in the rear wheel.

Along with what Divya suggested I will suggest you to check the cone set settings. I had a same kind of issue and that is all because of the cone set, get it checke d by a good mech coz all mech are not good enough to set the cone set.

I'm sorry "@Maddy", I'm not that technical knowledge person when it comes to bikes.
I'm not familiar with the cones setup & I've no idea of what you suggestion. Can you explain me what you have suggested so that I can tell it my regular mechanic

Cone Set basically lies in the handle two rings with bearings which regulates the handle movement.
