  • Slight RIM bent in 200NS - What to Do??

Today morning, i took out my 200NS, but felt something weird in Handling it. When saw the front tyre, it was almost Flat. Took it to a pump to fill in air. After i came back, I tried to find any leak by pouring water. (Since there was no visible puncture)
Found some very tiny bubbles coming out from the side of the rim. The leak is very small (kind of chora leak) and i think it will take days to completely leak out the air.
As of now sealed it with chewing gum !!..
But what sud i do next?? SVC will be closed tomorrow. Should i wait till monday, as i think the air will held by monday..

And if the rims needs to be changed, can i claim insurance on that?? Some of my Friends are telling to fully destroy the rim to claim insurance. Otherwise they won't Accept the claim. But
why is it that the insurance wont fulfill my claim unless the rim is totally destroyed?? If going by that theory, then i shoud be getting it replaced under warranty, right?? Coz if insurance doesn't accept, then it means it did not happen due to accident, and that is Actually a manufacturing defect. Right..

Who all are telling to fully damage the rim to claim insurance, pls can u tell me in detail about what insurance co accepts and what they doesn't accept..

(PS - I am very surprised/shocked to see the rims getting bend, as I didn't got through any potholes or any such thing in last few days)

I suggest you try going for Warranty. If you try insurance after warranty, it might work, but don't damage the rim yourself in any case. They will reject your claim because it will become suspicious for their agent. The entire bike is fine, you are fine, and only the rim is heavily damaged. I can't imagine that to be true since a heavily damaged rim will result in disbalancing & an accident. The company's agent won't believe otherwise.

Buddy, Insurance is surviving only because of legal compulsion, otherwise these companies are so harsh when you go for claims that no one would take their policy if it was not for the law.

When my arm was fractured and I went to claim insurance 3 months later on recovering, they told me that I could have claimed only one month after the accident, even if its not expired. That means, I was expected to claim insurance when I was on bed rest due to fracture??
Then for my hospital expenses, they said that since I didn't have any permanent disability, (like lunacy, limb loss, etc.) so there won't be any claim accepted. I was going like, "do your window panes have insurance? I want to break them!"

the same was the case with me, if you know, in 2007 i had a terrible accident (life threatning), the insurance company (Bajaj's own insurance) happily paid to repair the bike, but declined to pay for my medical expenses which were to the tune of 5-6 lakhs (no-exaggeration) and said that you need to be premanently disabled to claim medical expenses, and there are lot of hassles and claim amount is also not big.

so my advise is, always have a mediclaim policy.

anyway, coming back to topic. try to claim warranty by saying that ever since i purchased the bike, the tyre looses air very quickly. they will dissmiss it by saying that its your fault and you must have done harsh riding. but still, give it a try.

most probably it won't work out.

then insurance claim basically depends on how friendly is your service center to you. mine will happily do it. anyway first find a turn (corner) in some lonely place where there is lot of sand and an obstacle on the side of road ( like a pole, a big rock, milestone etc. ) go there, make a skid mark on the road, take some wet cow dung and apply it on tyre and slightly bang your tyre with that obstacle to place a mark on it. take pictures of skid mark and cow dung mark on obstacle, then deform the rim, put your bike on stand and click pictures, call a tempo and send the bike to service center and obtain reciept of tempo. so your bike basically skid on sand in a corner and hit the obstacle in verticle position, and you somehow saved the bike from fall. but lot of hassles.

slightly better option is try tyre sealent.

Since the SVC would have been closed on Sunday, so i waited till Monday, as i think the air will held by Monday..

But was socked to hear from the SVC that they have no instrument to open up the tyre. In fact none of the SVC here in Kolkata have that!!!!
Also went to various big shops (Such as bridgestone, MRF etc etc) but every one said that they are only capable to open out 4 wheeler Rims and not of Two wheelers. SOme of the Small shops (Road-side) wallas that i visited, also didn't want to open up the tyres, since,
          1) the tyre were tubeless
          2) the bike doesn't have a center stand!!

Now got an Address where they open up the tyre by proper machine. but that's quite far off from my place, and can take it only on coming Saturday

there are no special skills or tools required to open a tubeless tyre. other than that since your tyre is MRF, you can call customer care of MRF and force the MRF dealer to check, open, rectify the problem.
