No..there is no coolant required.Oil cooling is better way of air cooling itself.
A healthy avenger should give 30-40 kmpl depending upon riding conditions.
Check/change the spark plug,airfilter.Also tighten/lube the chain.maintain correct pressure in both tyres.
Check mileage again by full tank method,or fill 6 or 7 litres for more accurate measurement.

for average issue.. try full tank to full tank method.
calculate and kmpl only after 200-300 kms.
this way you will have better idea abt avg

Had my bike serviced completely..
Changed spark plugs, tightened base nuts, oiling the chain, cleaned ail filters etc..
Now, Its giving me a mileage of around 39kmpl & no more vibes upto 95kmph..

been riding avenger 200 for 5 yrs now.
known issues w/ the bike:
1. sprocket & chain issues will hound the owner till the life of the bike.
2. extreme vibrations beyond 65kmph
3. no redemption for pillion's butt... ever!
4. front disc has a very mean bite & hence in extreme / emergency braking, you will find the rear tyre right 'next' to you
5. the bike has good low end grunt but gets increasingly weak in high revs - so be ready to be humiliated even by the punny 135cc & 150cc punters on the open roads
6. in stop-go bumper-2-bumper traffic the weight of the bike & the heavy-set clutch does tend to be a bit too much - expect to have sore left shoulder often
7. bye bye to high-speed cornering - not even the Lord can save you if you hit a pothole mid-way into a corner
8. engine will bake you up in stop-go traffic - thats normal
9. plan to do a lil bit off-roading / loose gravel riding? wiser to take a mountain bicycle... avenger takes to off-road just like cats take to dogs!
for all the 'macho' & 'feel like god' image it exudes, the reality is way different! :-)

I had em too, the base nuts need to be tightened. Now, I do not get any vibes up to 80. 80-95 I get negligible vibes. Post 95 there are vibrations.
Though, the bike has vibrations they are felt on foot-pegs and handle bar, the Rider seat is safe from vibrations.

True that ! Though my friends and GF are happy that they at least get a back rest, which makes them kinda comfortable.
I am planning some mods for the shocks (gas shocks) and the pillion seat (make it wide and cushy) as in the pictures below : Will be doing it next week.




I found brakes pretty safe, though the front tyre does skid if one does not brake cautiously, due to long wheel base. But i am used to it, as my earlier bike had the worst brakes ever made.

True ! The bike feels under powered for a 200cc. Performs ok, from 0-80/90kmph, after that it takes a lot of effort to reach the top speed.

I don't agree on this.
Comfort to the rider is the one thing in which Avenger excels.
Be it stop-go bumper-2-bumper traffic, or a long highway, it provides the best comfort. I just rode around 90kms in the city Bangalore and came back home (from Jakkur - Marath halli - Indira Nagar - Koramangala - Jakkur) and i still can ride more (& no, i am not a sales Guy :P). Never got a Sore butt/shoulder or Cramped legs.
People keep saying that they have problems handling this bike in traffic : I dont, i handle it "almost" the same way i used to handle a 100cc. I do not have much problems zig zagging through traffic (though initially i used to, not anymore)

And a advice (hope it helps) : Keep your arms folded at all times instead of keeping it straight. Or adjust (bend) the handle bar towards the rider so that you get a much comfortable position. Never crouch, your back needs to be straight because its a cruiser

Here's my story :
Dont remember since when I have been a fan of Cruisers : because i dont remember the year when I watched T2 for the first time and saw Arnold ride that Harley !
But even though I had so much of love for the cruisers, I had not thought of going for the Avenger, after hearing a lot, I mean a lot of negatives about this bike. Though i had never ridden it.
I was actually planning to go for a FZ/RTR 180/Karizma ZMA. And the main purpose of buying the bike was for touring.
Then came my friend with an Avenger 180, the first time I rode that bike : i felt so much at home. I just knew, this is the one i need to own.
I rode his bike for almost a month before making up my mind.

Then there was this guy who had a blue Avenger 200, 2008 model run for only 13k kms. He had hardly used it and was ready to sell for a pretty reasonable price.
Went in for the purchase as it was a good catch!

Well now, after buying the bike, I did get some mixed thoughts..
"Did i make a mistake by buying this one ?"
"Should i have rather gone for a new ZMA, instead of going for this second hand Avenger?"

Gave the bike for complete service and rode one of my friend's ZMA for a day.
And the next day rode my Avenger again. All the mixed feelings vanished : There is nothing like riding a Avenger.. The low-slung cruising at 80-90 (rather than speeding at 100-120), the feeling. Its just so awesome !
The "feel like God" feeling : It does exist (At least for me, it does )

i compliment you for the thoughts u have thus far.
i hope that the same remain after about 5 years & clocking 7L kms on it! :-)

Yes sir... 5 yrs 8 months since the day of purchase and clocked 6.8L on the odo right now. (Have a daily running of abt 83kms home to work n back, lol...) Wanted to get leh'd this year but don't think she will take it anymore. Have been having piston block, sprocket & related issues. Ive been a lame lazy ass in a dilemma of whether I should get that replaced or simply replace the bike itself. The cost of the repairs just might well be 25% of the price she will fetch, if I were to sell her off.

Bid her a bye dude, my caliber 115 clocked 1.3L when she gave up, pistons gone, connecting rod noise, sprockets changed thrice, repairs were not worth, so sold off (i never wanted to, i wanted to keep her, even in non working condition) and in came a honda stunner.
She fetched only 9k due to the kilometres covered.
So, in all, a bajaj which is more than 2L kms, then i guess its time for a new ride for you.

i had a splendor earlier - meticulously maintained, for 11 yrs [yes... eleven...] & rode her thru the length & breadth of our country... again about sub 8L kms on it - had purchased it for 47K & sold her off after 11 yrs for 15K - not a bad deal :-)
she was truly a fill it - shut it - forget it types.

somehow cant say the same for bajaj's...
avenger, despite being a trusted companion, has not been a ride that has put a grin on my face every time i crank it.

its like no matter how deeply u love her, how meticulously well u maintain her, no matter what.., there's this something unexplained about her, that's just not right.

@ times its the sprocket or its the grossly under-powered [intentionally detuned by bajaj] engine or its the scary character of her, if u throw her in a fast corner or the ability of its rear to swing around & come towards the front... it somehow just doesnt inspire the same level of confidence that even a pulsar or a unicorn might.

i purchased her for 78K back then... had visited ProBiking to enquire about Duke390 & Ninja650 last week.

out of sheer curiosity, asked that guy how much wud my avenger fetch & he said, w/ that kinda numbers on the odo, i willl be lucky to get even 12K for her :'(

Yup, when my caliber was sold, i was literally struggling to stop my tears, i still have her spar key with me , great emotions, well you know that the speedo can be tampered right, you should have got the figures changed on the speedo before going to probiking showroom, moral of the story, they cheat us, we cheat them.
And if you buying ninja 650, i have got to meet you . i guess it will cost around 5.3L (as the showroom guy 'rohan' told me)

Hopefully it would serve me well, for the 1000kms (two way) tour which i would be doing next month.
I would probably use it for a year or two, and get something else (thats why, I got a second hand)

Anyways, would you have an idea as to why would Bajaj detune the Avenger to such an extent?

Hopefully, i will sell it off / gift it to one of my cousins before I stop feeling this way.
