  • Shogun Silencer - Catcon Vs Non-Catcon

    Hi,
My '98 Shogun came with a catcon silencer. Thing is it always leaks from the middle (where the junction is) no matter how often you change the gasket. The baffle assembly inside is damaged too (looks like a cone at the topmost part). I was just wondering if I can replace the whole silencer with a normal non-catcon silencer. Will it affect the sound, ride and engine functionalities?

I will pass the emission norms, I know that

The catcon baffle assembly itself costs Rs. 2800 almost twice the cost of a non-catcon silencer and is very difficult to source. Secondly, my experience is, it is very hard to maintain that junction in the middle of the silencer. So just wondering if I can replace the whole silencer with a non catcon silencer.

    Thanks in advance folks!

The 1st Generation Shoguns came with non-catcons on them. So I would probably opt for that but I am not sure at all.

The first genaration guns came with cat con, i don't think there will be any performance loss until and unless the non catcon has same measurements ( in mm ) as catcon one, correct me if i am wrong.

Did you take your mechanic along with you, do that first ! most of your doubts will be cleared.

I owned a '95 Shogun before which came with a non catcon silencer. The difference is in the main baffle assembly. See sketch. The catcon silencer comes with a megaphonic baffle and 2 extra filters. The silencer can be detached from the middle.

Apparently both the silencers will look the same size. Another thing is the catcon silencer comes with a heat shield on its body.

Go for the not catcon one... a brand new one is a bit hard to find in Kolkata. Try ur luck at Durga in Wellington or Shiva in Beckbagan.

Also try to knock Anil Da's Garage near Hind Cinema.... He prepares a lot of Shoguns which still take part in the Group D events. So he may have access to them...

              And any luck at ZEN?

and used ones are available at Mallickbazaar....

Durga and Shiva both said nada to any available silencer for Shogun. These people do not like people asking for Shogun spares in their shop because they have to say NO to most spares wanted. Most unwelcomed customer

I sourced a catcon silencer with an extra premium via Zen for Rs. 4500. Probably will settle for that. Zen Motors, Bangalore rocks! I will be going there to bring it on 13th of this month.

The silencers at Mallickbazar are worst than the one on my bike. Too much dents and tabs on them and most of them have their baffles missing. There were only 2 silencers, and both had welded patches at 4-5 areas.

I have heard of Anil Da's garage but never visited, will surely visit soon.
