recently after a ride of 150 kms my bullet (standard 1992-93) developed a weird knocking sound (not very loud but disturbing) in the mid rpm range when i pull. the mechanic says it might have been overheated so the piston developed a little play and a little mobil oil in the fuel tank would help. will it? any other advise on helping the engine stay on the quieter side will be useful. thanks.

But then it might just also be poor fuel quality. You said that the weird sound comes when you suddenly pull the bike, that can also happen due to poor quality petrol which is probably getting ignited earlier than required. It might also be the case of preignition.

Engine sound from RE Classic 500
Hi,
My RE CL 500 has done 18,500 Km. Since 15000 Kms I've noticed that after around 2000 Km of engine oil change, the engine starts giving a clicking sound & the thump also increases. This stops after engine oil change. I do have an upswept exhaust installed, but I got it installed right after 2nd service, so, that shouldn't be a problem.
Now, what i feel is that this is some thing related to engine oil. I usually get my Motorcycle serviced at Teknik Motors which is an authorised service center in bangalore. They say that they use Motul 15W50.
Can someone please help me on this?Comment
