  • Nitrox mono suspension DIY adjustment?

    Hello,
I own a Discover 125 ST. It comes with a nitrox mono shock and is adjustable. In my first service I asked the mechanic to make suspension softer. What he did is, he moved shock's hook to uppermost groove. When I got the delivery I asked about they said it's set to stiff. The service guy said it's now set to soft. Then what are 10 other grooves are there for? I think he made it stiffest.
Guys can you please help me understand what are various settings for this nitrox mono shock. And most importantly, can I adjust this shock by myself? And If so, how? I know it's weird to ask for a guide to adjust shocks on the net, but could you please provide me with some links to videos or something like that? That would help a lot.

    Topic Approved.

Buddy, its possible that one of your info is wrong, and given by someone who just "assumed" more than he knew. And my question to you is: How do you actually feel about the ride quality while riding it?

Yes you can adjust the shock-absorber yourself.

Do adjust it yourself....the lowest groove is for softest setting....but not for corner cravers......simple

Basically your wrench head should be somewhat of this shape (the head should be more wide apart) so as to grip the monoshock grooves and twist it in your desired direction. An easy job.

Ok, my monoshock has been set to softest setting as described your image here. However, I am feeling ride stiffer than before. Dont know how can this be!

i have a doubt with that pic of yours................from that are you saying that if we turn the wrench towards left i.e from top view clock wise rotation, it means we are making it softer ?

Re: Nitrox mono suspension DIY adjustment?

I checked the service manual of Pulsar 200 NS and according to the manual, there are 9 adjustable points on the monoshock. The rotations are counterclockwise for a stiffer suspension, or in simple English, when you stand behind bike with wrench in your hand, you have to turn the monoshock adjuster towards your right.
                        I am back!

You have to try to strike a balance between the two. Too soft and you have no feel, too stiff and your suspension won't handle road irregularities. A fairly large bump could cause your suspension to bottom out and throw you on your head if you set suspension to full soft and try to corner or bend bike.
Keep it usually +1 softer for your daily commute. Usually when you have passenger too, it is not recommended to keep too soft suspension. It will impact the gas shocks.

                            Remember!!

Stiff suspension: Stiff suspension is good for jumps like motocross, humps and uneven roads. Stiff suspension involves making the shock absorbers firmer so they resist being compressed and rebounded and "give" less, resulting in less up and down bounce. It does not keep you planted to the road, in sense but actually lets you feel the real road.

Soft suspension: There is more play for the suspension and rebound is faster without much big hits, you can feel the bike hugs road or you can now sense the better road, this is recommended if you ride only on flat tarmacs.

There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

I want to increase the ride height...So, does the stiffer suspension increase the ride height..??
