  • 2013 CB Shine giving trouble... :(

    Hey guys,
I bought a Honda CB Shine on 1st March 2013. form that time it was running so good so far and I completed my run in period happily. Now 10 day after the first service (25 days @ 900km) it started giving trouble. Every time I start the engine I've rev it and keep pulling the throttle if I lose throttle bike dose not remain in idle condition and engine shutdown immediately. First I thought that it was a cold start problem but it isn't, bike just start in one or two kicks without hassle even though I don't give a choke. the problem remain the same till the end of the day no matter how long you drive. Is it a carb problem or any engine issue or any serious prob??

Plz hlp me guys its really massed up!!

That does not seem to be big problem. No engine issues to be. Even i have a Honda Shine, it suffered with the problem for few days of buy, if may be a throttle cable problem or improper carb tuning, get it checked in the service station. After i changed the throttle cable, my shine did not gave the problem again.

throttle is response is good no lag in any condition... I'm trying to get access to the idling screw hope it will help to keep up engine pace.
One more thing i want to add that since its an air cooled bike my friend told me that they put some kind of coolant in his bike by removing side panel, i don't think is was a coolant...was it????

got access to the screw and tuned it for the best now engine didn't kill for once throughout the traffic and idling is perfect...so i'm happy now!

but there is one more thing i want to ask that if my bike is tuned for the best FE is there is a chance that engine getting lot of pressure and engine wearing and tearing soon....i mean people say that if u get FE and carb is tuned for the least engine will damage soon u gotta feed her more fuel for running, is it like that???

i'm not a harsh rider i ride usually in the traffic (40-50) or on open road (not more than 60-65) and i gradually open the throttle not doing a burst!!

Re: 2013 CB Shine giving trouble...

Guys, a new problem has occurred in the bike. Its not responding to the throttle as it was before. Initial pick up is sluggish (I have to give short burst to build up the revs initially). After on a little high RPM it runs ok for a while and then starts giving slight hiccups (feels like power is going up and down but not the RPM). Its been a long time since I am checking on it. No, its not an AFR issue and the carb has been cleaned by svc guy recently but the problem persist.

Now they are saying its a VALVE issue. Valve issue @42k kms, really?? I thought Honda makes a quality engine.

What should I do?? Should I go ahead and let them open engine of my bike?? Suggest me I am confused here!

                        Possible issues :

                        1. A bad air filter. Change it. Do not clean it. its cheap.
                        2. A bad spark Plug. Replace it. Its cheap.
                        3. Bad clutchplates, might need replacement.

Apart from the pointers mentioned above by Bob bhai, please check for chain-sprockets condition as well.
Do all these 4-5 checks before opening the engine.

Additionally, get the tappets (valve clearance) set to correct figures using a feeler gauge. The figures would be mentioned in the manual that came with your bike.

Chain Sprocket has been changed a while ago and I have put a Roll On Chain Sprocket. It is a bit thick and long lasting compare to previous one. See, I have already done all the things that I know of. But I really have doubt regarding opening that engine.

Do they need to open engine in order to set the tappets???

Nope. I'm not well versed with Shine, but on my bike, only the tank needs removal to access them tappets!
