  • Honda CB Unicorn Ford problem after a accident.

    Hi All,

My advance thanks to every one who is going to help me here.

I own a CB Unicorn Black color. Its just 1.5 yrs old with 16K kilo meters.

Last week i met with an accident and my bike fork got damaged with other parts like Bike face, Disk plate, Left indicator, wheel axle.
I gave it to a local mechanic get it fixed. He has took my fork in to fork bend shop available in chennai Rayapetta . I have asked him that will i get my bike with same smoothness it was before accident. he said no problem , you will get the same smoothness as this done through hydraulics not manually.

Below is the bill that has given to me.

    Bike face Mask = 940
    Disk Plate = 850
    Wheel axle = 60
    Fork blares = 30
    Fork bend = 400
    Service charge = 500
    left indicator = 110

    Total = 2890

My handle bar got totally damaged, it actually has to be changed. since i had my old handle bar with slight bend , i fixed it in my bike for time being (actually doesn't have money to buy new one )

So i got my bike back in another 2 days of time. I used it for 2 days, i feel like front wheel is jumping a little when i cross 40-50 KMHS. also suddenly the speedo meter is not working from today morning. when i front apply disc break i'm hearing some tik tik sound from my front fork and suspension. I believe the fork little loose.

Please help me to get my bike same smoothness as like previous and please suggest me a good CB unicorn specialist. I tried with 3-4 mechanics.. all were just cheating fellows.

Actually my bike fork not works as like a unicorn's fork.. it works like a splendor...

when ever i cross a small dig on the road or a speed breaker.. it makes some noise as like everything is just connected and not tightened... makes takaka noise..

also when ever i apply my front disc, it makes some tak tak noises from fork... Pls help me to get back my forks smoothness.. i actually love my bike smoothness very much...

I dont think there is anything that one can do in your case.. you will have to repeatedly visit svc to get things sorted out. As you have paid good amount of money to this mechanic.. keep eating his head until your bike comes back to its previous state.
I wont suggest changing mechanic at this moment. You can ask other mechanics to identify problems and pinch this mechanic to fix them.

Firstly after you met with the accident, you should had gone to the Honda Service Center rather than going to a local mechanic. It might be little expensive compared to this local mechanic but a good and neat job will be done and even if you want to leave it to a local mechanic, search for a specialist (Unicorn specialist) or a well known mechanic so that they will have more experience, do not leave your bike with unknown people, this is my own experience after leaving my bike to a mechanic who boasted himself as a great person. I left my bike for a sprocket kit change, I paid around 800rs or more for the whole (i am not worrying about the money but what if I was in a higher speed that day) sprocket kit and you won't believe, it just lasted for only 2 months until I had to change it again. Before 1 month itself, the sprocket had come to its end stage and one day while riding on a main road, the chain got jammed with the sprocket, causing the bike to halt suddenly in the middle of the road. I was lucky as I was only around 30 kmph speed and the helmet was in my hand and just controlled the bike (I THANK GOD FOR THAT) and now found a good mechanic whom I felt one of the best and changed the sprocket kit and got it serviced completely, it runs like a jet with no sound. . . So, please don't leave your bike with local or unknown mechanics. Just give a visit to the nearest Honda Service Station and show the bike to them, I hope they will have a permanent solution for that. If you are running low in money, take some time, get some money and visit the Service Station till then ride safe, don't go more than 30-40 kmph. Hope your problem will be resolved soon. . . In the Service Station, make one of the guy your friend as he will make sure your bike will be serviced or repaired well. . .

          Cheers!!! Ride safe. . .

Re: Honda CB Unicorn Ford problem after a accident.

Guys, Thank you very much for your comments and helping me with this.

Actually i had a very close friend of mine in a Honda service center , but he is no more into mechanical field and he went of town also... Once i had a experience from my friend, that once when we completed with our free services in SVC , don't take it back to them as they were removing the original parts and placing back some defected parts in to that and using the original parts to their or their friends bikes. As my friend already went out i temptated to give my bike to a local mechanic ...

As mustariz said, am also not much worried for spending money, but i want my bike back with smooth performance and wanted to have pleasant drive with it...

I have special request to my friend Rakesh ROk,,, Could you please share me your bike photos to my personal mail ([email protected]) ...
i became fan of your bike and its stickering.. Am also bit interested to make some cosmetic changes with my Unicorn,,,,

And i will keep screw that local mechanic till my problem get solved

            Thanks a lot guys!!!

Re: Honda CB Unicorn Ford problem after a accident.

                1. never ride a bike w/o insurance cover - i.m.h.o. its illegal as well.
                2. in case of an accident, unless there is fatality / human casualty, call up ur insurance company & report the accident regardless of whose mistake / error it was, that caused an accident. make it a point of storing the insurance company contact # on ur cellphone!!!
                3. try & grab some fotos of the accident itself that explain how the scenario looked when it happened - this is helpful in laying claims w/ the insurance company later.
                4. in case there are more than 1 parties involved in an accident, always exchange the contact details of all parties - so that compensation / settlement / etc. can be hassle free. @ the worst, atleast note down the vehicle registration details, for all vehicles that were involved in that accident.
                5. always tow away the vehicle to the nearest authorized service center. most often the insuring company representative will advise you on where u can tow-down the vehicle to - the insurance company inspector / surveyor often directly visits the service center in under 24 hours to assess the damage, to recreate the incident & then sanction the claim.
                6. no roadside mechanic will ever be able to match the flawlessness of the well-qualified service center staff - so never handover ur ride to anybody just like that.
                hope this helps.
                ride safe.

Re: Honda CB Unicorn Ford problem after a accident.

Guys, actually i do have a insurance coverage for my bike.

I though we need to file a complaint in police station to get insurance claim which will surely get my parents attention ( i don't want my parents to know about this.. Till now they don't know about it i didn't had any injury by gods grace)..

Also this will take 1 or 2 weeks of time to get the amount processed by the insurance company right ??
I have an other question too... do we need to file a complaint to get insurance claim ??

                  Thanks in advance

it's only for two reasons he has not claimed his insurance, firstly if he claims, the bike's value will go down and secondly as he said, he doesn't want his parents to know about it and also claiming the insurance is a bit long, so he has chosen the other way. . . One of my friend has done the same thing he did for his karizma and spent 20 k by his hand instead of claiming the insurance. . .

                      1. unless there is casualty / loss of human life, u need not file a FIR [first information report] with the Police.
                      2. i dont know who is the insurer of the vehicle but if it is any of the top-of-the-line insurance companies viz. bajaj allianz, hdfc ergo, etc. then the accident surveyor will scrutinize the vehicle in under 24 hrs. if you are insured with any of the government companies viz. new india assurance, oriental insurance, etc. then, i'm sorry to say that the FIR is mandatory.
                      3. assuming its the former & not the later, the insurance surveyor will visit the affected vehicle, take photos of the damaged vehicle & file the findings report w/ his employer [the insurance company]
                      4. the insurance company will then call u informing about the magnitude of the damage done. usually u get the following compensated by the insurance company:
                      - metal / glass parts: full replacement & 100% cost borne by the insurance company.
                      - plastic / fiber parts: only 60% of the parts cost borne by the insurance company - the rest goes out from the owners pocket.
                      - rubber parts: no benefit - full amount for repairs goes out of the owners pocket.
usually these terms & conditions & percentiles of the payout are clearly listed in the insurance policy manual - check that out for more clarifications.
                      5. all in all, if its any of the above mentioned companies, the entire process listed above, is completed in under 24~48 hours of your officially reporting the accident.
                      hope this helps.
                      be safe!

I still insist NOT to trust a local mechanic with fixing ur ride, for major damage.
Ur life depends on the flawless performance of ur ride.
For the mechanic it's merely a matter of yet another customer served.
As u can see, the perspective behind both is as different as water & oil.
Ride safe brother & may the force be with u.

Thanks a Lot Bro... The major problem is am not at all happy with the honda service center - service with my bike...

Also they were not responding properly for our questions and just ignoring and telling us some idiotic reasons... Still i ll take your suggestion in a strong manner and try to make a good friend in service center..
