  • Duke390 2016 : Clutch Plate Argument with the Service Advisor

    Hello Riders,

I have been silent on the forums for a while but I've been activity Solo Tripping with my Beloved Rockett. Rockett is a 2016 Duke 390.
I have clocked 49000 Kms with Rockett.

As a good owner and keeper, I took her for a routine check up and service to the nearest SVC.
I have been a loyal customer of this KTM SVC since the induction of the Brand to the indian market in 2012. I do own the 2012 Duke 200.

Post lock down the service advisors have changed and have probably been given a sales target (thats my presumption).

So, this advisor, after checking my bike, comes back to me telling i need to change the clutch plates on Rockett.
He demonstarted to me by turning the handle to the extreme left and then asking me to check the free travel distance of the clutch lever.

Then he straightened the handle and showed me that the travel distance is higher now.

What i understood is that when the handle is turned, the only thing that might change is the Tension in the Clutch Cable.
But the guy went onn to say that its not the cable, its the clutch plates. and started giving me some justification that i didn't bother listening to. (i might have made a mistake here, i should've heard him out).

Anyways I didn't have the clutch plates replaced. Got the routine service done and got Rockett back home.

Now the question in my head is, Are there any tell tell signs that my clutch plates need to be replaced?
I don't wanna wait for a complete clutch failure, but i don't wanna replace the plates when they substantial life left in them..

Looking forward to some advise here...
