  • Riding with Pillion, Saddle Bags & Other items

    Hello, motorheads,

I am planning for the first-ever motorcycle ride with my wife from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar with a 1-day stop at Pune and 2 days stay in Mahabaleshwar. I ride an Apache RTR 200 4V BS4, 2019 model. Wifey is 5"2' and weighs around 50 kgs. I wanted your help and your advice on the following questions.

    1. Riding gear - I have a riding jacket, and wanted to know what riding jacket should I get her for XS size? Also, we both need knee guards - which ones do you suggest?
    2. Saddle Bags - My bike doesn't have saddle stays. Which saddle bag should I buy for this ride? I have seen Rynox and ViaTerra saddlebags but wanted to get your opinion on any other model. I want to ensure the saddlebag doesn't touch the silencer or go near the tires. It has to be rock-solid in mounting without affecting pillion comfort. I will be using this for all rides henceforth, even when I solo.
    3. Tyre Puncture - Is it possible to fix this on my own? If yes, what do I need to carry?

My bike is recently serviced. Do I need to do anything else? Please let me know if I have missed anything!

Thanks a lot in advance for your guidance. 🙏

I used a RoadGods Triton X1 saddle bag on my Suzuki Gixxer, which didn't give me any trouble on a 3000km journey. All saddle bags will make the pillion seat a little less comfy, especially mounting and dismounting. But if your wife is adventurous and likes motorbike rides, then the saddle bags I used shouldn't be a problem. The X1 bags I used had a capacity of 75lts, and could accommodate a lot of stuff. They're out of stock, but the X2 with a 50l capacity are available, and seem to be an upgraded design. I'd buy them.
You can get tyre repair kits on Amazon. But if you don't have an air pump, then I don't know how useful they'll be. I have this pump and it works well with my car and bike.
