  • Is it worth repairing a motorcycle engine (2015 Gixxer 155)?

I have a Gixxer that I purchased in 2015, worked great until a stupid thing that I did recently. I went on a drive 600 Km total and while returning I forgot to stop a bit to get the engine cooled and drove almost 170 Kms non-stop at around 90-100 Km/h speed constantly, suddenly the engine stopped making a zipping sound as if something slipped.

After waiting for a few minutes it started normally but the engine started to make a knocking sound. After visiting the service centre the guys there told me that I need engine repair and it'll cost 20K and it'll give me about 1L kms worth of life and mind you I have ridden almost 1.5L kms with my bike without any engine issues.

My question is, is it worth repairing the engine? Will it get revived completely? How much should I pay for the work? Should I go for authorised SVCs?

What exactly did the ASC guys tell you? What was the issue? I've heard of 2 strokes seizing up when running really long on WOT, but 4 strokes, especially a modern day engine like the Suzuki's 155, essentially shouldn't have an issue at such a short distance. Considering it's done over 1L km, sounds like they mean an engine overhaul.

You need an good local mechanic to do thing with good quality work (svc can force to replace extra parts)at reasonable labour charges, new engine head and piston set cost will be around 3to4.5k rupees, so 20k is hugh amount they are asking for and Don't repair things when you new one at reasonable cost.
