    Hi guys, this is my first ever post on xBhp. Apologies in advance for any mistakes.

    I own a 2004 Karizma and ride it on and off. It has been lying in the storeroom for the past 3 years. A few days ago I decided to restore it and start riding. Took it to my local mechanic who brought it back to running condition.

    A new battery was installed, the carburettor was thoroughly cleaned, and all other parts were checked too. Took it for a 40-50 kms ride yesterday and the memory of problems I faced with my bike before I stopped riding, was refreshed.

    There are two major problems plaguing the bike. first is unstable rpm, it keeps on fluctuating, have to set it to 2000 rpm to keep the bike running and then when the bike warms up it gradually increases and gets unstable.

    The second major problem is high rpm at 60 km/h and above, at 60 it seems like I am riding the bike at 100 km/h, rpm is around 6000-6500 rpm or maybe even more, engine sounds strained and there is not much power left to pull towards 90-100. The max. I could go was 80km/h and the engine felt really strained, the same behaviour earlier was when the bike did more than 110kmph.

    The clutch is not slipping, there is no burning smell. Just that the gear ratios seem odd. I remember I got the clutch overhauled last time and did not ride the bike much after that.

    As per my understanding, the problem seems to be carburettor tuning and maybe with the clutch as well. The mechanic did not do a complete job and I do not want to go back to him. So a good mechanic suggestion somewhere around Wast Delhi will also help.

    I do not want to part ways with the bike as I am really attached to it and want to ride it for a few months to see if there is a use case for a new bike. Riding it after so many years refreshed all the good memories I had while riding it.

      you seem to have two problems.

      1. Lean and inconsistent AFR.

      2. Clutch Slip.

      1. For lean AFR check the setting of the Fuel screw on the Left side of Carburetor ie., the gear shifter side. To set it approximately near std setting, first GENTLY turn it CLOCKWISE till it stops, Then, turn it Anti Clockwise for full 3 turns. A full turn is equal to turning the screw by 360 degrees.
      Check also the Air Cut Off Valve at the Right side ie., the Rear Brake and Kicker side. If it is punctured , change it.

      2. Change the Full clutch plates ie., Friction and metal plates.
      The approximate RPM Vs land speed on top gear for Karizma is RPM X 15 divided by 1000 ie., if the RPM is 4,000 then land speed will be approximately 60 Kph. speedo error is about + or - 5 Kph.
      If any sprocket alteration had been done, then it must be factored in for speed calculation.

        My bad, apologies for incorrect information in my previous post. Rpm is indeed 4000 at 60 kmph, when last rode again to check.

        Just that at 70kmph engine loses its breath and vibrates a hell lot, cannot go above that like earlier times when 80-90 kmph used be smooth and vibration free cruising.

        Clutch is definitively not slipping. Will also check the setting of fuel screw and set it by following your instructions.
