  • Gixxer Monoshock repair or new

Found out from the service centre that the rear monoshock is weak. Should I get it repaired or buy a new one?

    Can it be repaired easily?

Better to buy a new one. Costs less than 4k.
Repairing is technically possible and many local shock-absorber repair shops do it. What ever is the problem with it, they don't say "No". They grind, cut, bang, swap and somehow the job will be done but can't expect neat work. They even give guarantee for 6 months to 1 year by mouth, and its as good as depending on your fate.
There are many incidents related to modified shocks from such shops and I'll list a couple of them for you..
      1. Bike rear felt wobbly at certain speeds after monoshock height was modified.
      2. Welding between monoshock and frame broke while riding at 110 kmph on the highway. Bike was unrestorable and rider survived but with injuries.

So... aaaaalways better to get new one when it comes to shocks.

Till date I haven't come across a decent place that does custom work on the shocks in a educated professional way (for non-superbikes).
If anybody knows any custom shocks people (apart from www.zedlingsuspension.com), please let me know too.
