  • Issue with Pulsar self-start

I am a proud owner of Pulsar 135 for the last 9 years. A few weeks back, for the first time, I had an issue with my self start. it stopped working one fine day and was making a single click sound when hitting the self-start. I went to a local garage and he changed the 'carbon' and said there was rust in the self-starter motor, the black cylindrical thing.
after a week, a loud cranking noise starts coming upon starting the bike through self-start and also a little bit through the kick. And after few more days, it went back to the original problem of 'click' sound and bike not starting using self.
The mechanic told me I need to get the self start motor replaced and he showed some local brand 'Mukut' priced at 1600 which he willingly agreed to a 20% discount as a goodwill gesture for not solving the issue the first time. (Also I had to pay 250 Rs for carbon change).
Could you guys please guide what the problem is and if replacing the self-starter motor would resolve the issue.
Also, I guess doing it at the service centre would be better in terms of genuineness and warranty but they would charge more money.
