• Engine Rebuild or New Bike

I use a Hero Honda Hunk. My bike is 3 years old and now clocked over 40,000 km.
Recently, my mechanic says that the bike needs engine rebuild (clutch, piston rings, cylinder head etc.) because the sound of the engine is changed......and the engine is consuming some engine oil if revved hard causing white smoke from the silencer.
Now my question is' "Will I get the same performance of a new engine if the engine is rebuild?'
or 'Should I sell off the bike and go for a new bike?'
Buying a new bike means much more cost! But some people say that rebuild engine has never the feeling of a smooth new feeling like a stock engine no matter how well the engine is rebuild. I am really confused; please help me out. Thank you in advance for your valuable, knowledgeable and practical experience sharing.

A proper rebuild engine can behave better than stock one.
Hunk 40k kms done is quite ok, Go for new oversize piston with reboring job .
And surely new valves ..
It will behave as stock only, if your pocket permit go for new bore-piston rather than reborring the old one..
It will not be much costly..
But when you go for this job add
1.carb cleaning
2.check clutchplates (if need replace)
Go for it..

Engine rebuild, if done by the right people and perfect precision, will definitely bring your bike back to stock form. Unfortunately, this combination of skill and labor is very uncommon. Make sure you look around for a very reputed mechanic in your area, somebody who frequently undertakes engine rebuilds. Ask around to find out who's the best man for the job. And if you are investing in a rebuild, why not give it a few cc's extra and get more out of it?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Thank you brothers for your valuable suggestions.
Is it really possible to increase the CCs.
How can I do it? Which higher CC's bike's piston should I use then? Should i change any other parts for the oversized piston then?
Will it be properly fitted?
Maximum how much CC can I increase and which bike's piston should i use?

Dude, Stay away from cc increase.. it seems good on paper but if you are asking arround if it can be done, STOP THINKING.keep the bike stock unless you know exactly what you are doing. else be prepared for headaches, best is to change the Piston and the rings, get the bore reworked to proper size. change the inlet and exhaust valve seals, change all gaskets, change valves. and the bike should work like new.. i have done this myself.. this should cost you max 2000 rs INR for the parts + about 600 labour charges and your bike will be new..remember, replace all gaskets.. especially the block and head gasket...happy repairing...

Re: Engine Rebuild or New Bike

ROCKRZ: Sir, I am novice in this field,, but I have an 2003 Pulsar 150 Classic which has been opened once (i.e only piston valves and seals has been changed) now it has been emmitting white smoke, I initially planned to chnage the whole set up with that of the 180 cc, but after reading your advise I would stick to 150 CC set up. My bike has a very good pickup but then gets beaten even by a HH splendour , it seems that it should have a extra sixth gearas the top speed goes upto a mere 55-60. Sir,

1)I dnt wanna sell this bike as it has been with me in my every ups and downs!!will buy any other higher CC bike .
2)Will change the CARB with BS29 -PULSAR 180cc UG4.
3)Should I change the Piston block(in which the Piston moves up & down)?
4)Also will the engine head has to be changed?
5)The valves are to changed with 180 cc valves or should it has to be kept that those of 150CC's
6)If so , do I have to change the Cam Shaft?
7)What does over size piston means?
8)Does any one knows a GOOD MEchanic In DELHI-NCR only.

Please Advice as I love My Bike My darling,,, PLZZZ HELP ME if any other advises you have!!! and treat the matter as most urgent.
