  • oil leak through stator Grommet duke 200

Hi guys. I need a little help. Today i changed my stator and replace the gasket. My problem is now i have an oil leak through the stator wire rubber grommet. I needn't use any sealant except little amount of grease around the gasket. I tried an hour ago a Saratoga HD350 around the rubber grommet and will check again tomorrow if it holds. Any suggestions?? Do i need to reopen the case? I really want to avoid it cause i don't want to ruin the gasket. Thanks in advance!

Ivan, the rubber grommet leak is quite common when a sealant isn't used around the rubber grommet during installation. Now that you've applied a silicone based sealant around the periphery of the grommet, only time will tell whether it can perhaps hold or not. Mind you, this can sometimes be deceptive. You might not observe a weep during normal running, but once the temperature is upto running, you might observe prolonged weep. Observe, for a few days after a spirited ride, if you observe weep/oil stains your best bet would be remove the cover, use good quality sealant and reinstall.

    Cheers!

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Thanks for the reply!. I bought a better sealant and will apply it again the same way ( from the outer side) if i see a leak again. My previous sealant (poor quality) application was under oily conditions cause it was night and didn't have time to do a "proper" job. Today i rode the bike 4-5 times each about 20 minutes ( i know its not enough) and i didn't notice a leak. If the problem persists also with the new sealant i will buy a new gasket and make the installation better. One more question.. i applied a LOT blue Chinese brand locktite (bought in 2019 probably expired by now thats the reason i applied a lot ) . I wonder if it will be easy to unscrew the bolts from the crankcase...
