  • Karizma r (2014) aluminium shavings (long and curled) in oil change

    Hello,

I own a karizma r 2014 v2 modev. It has run 31000 km. I religiously by my self change the oil every 3 months and it has been running on fully synthetic oil from the last 10000km like shell, motul 7100 and mobil1 fully synthetic with a grade of 10w40.Tappet clearance has been done by me with a feeler gauge at 20000km back.

On my last oil change it was running on mobil fully synthetic 10w40 oil, i noticed about 1cm lenght of aluminium shaving in the oil.Could not figure out what it was.Decided to fill new oil and ride for a week and just changed it today and noticed the same aluminium shaving in the oil longer and curled. No idea what it is.Kindly help.

The bike runs normal no issues, no weird ticking sound or piston slaps ,the clutch engages and disengages well no drop in speed.I am a sedate rider, kept rpms around 4.5 k rpm and on high ways maximum rpms were 5.5 to 5.8 k rpm.No redlining nothing.

The last change i did was to the timing chain cover o ring and gasket.Made sure nothing fell i side while the cover was opened and wjile removing the gasket..

Not sure what these shavings are from, they are aluminium.Have my doubts if they are from clutch plates side

Kindly advice what should be done and if anyone can pin point where these shaving have come from.

    Thanks in advance.

psr sir, requesting you to chime in please.
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

The Aluminum pieces have uniform width and is either a casting flash or sheared off piece. Either way the engine is in good health from what you had reported and so nothing to guess as of now. Watch for the next 2 to 3 K Kms for any difference in engine sound or behavior . When you change oil in the next 3K Kms as usual look out for smaller pieces of aluminum , or any metal pieces.

        Hello psr .

        Very happy to hear this!

Thank you soo much for the diagnosis.By casting flash or sheared of piece does it mean the clutch side cover or magnet side aluminium cover which has still got the factory 'aluminium debris" which was not cleaned properly before assembling the new engine?. Had read about this but i dont know if im too picky but this aluminium pieces have started appearing after i have opened the timing cover to change the o ring and gasket before had not seen any of this.
or could it be because of the mobil fully synthetic oil did it loosen up the aluminium debris from the centrifugal filter?

I Have changed the oil yesterday to RIMULA R4. Should i change the oil at 1000km and see for any more pieces.

        Kindly advice.

Whenever i start the karizma i let it idle for 60 seconds at idle rpm of 1150 before i put the bike into gear and ride.

On a side note, The Mobil oil which i used was purchased from Amazon and it shows the manufacture as EGYPT along with arabic and it has been imported from there. Are the oils from Amazon original?.

          1. I presume that by Timing chain cover unit, you meant the top cover of the Cam shaft sprocket , and so it being a casting flash more likely. I hope there were no grinding or any new noise from the engine after everything was put back.

          2. Oil usually does not cause these metal pieces to appear..it is just a lubricant, and either lubricates or doesn't .

          3. Rimula R4 is good for 1,500 or 2 K kms in ZMA. You can continue to use it till you touch 2 K Kms with the oil then drain . The oil has lots of detergents, and cleans the engine inner parts. It has ZDDP which forms a Zinc, copper intermediate and helps in Lubricating all moving parts through which it flows. This greatly improves smoothness, Cleanliness of internal parts and most importantly , protects internal moving parts of engine from Wear.
