, My pulsar 180 (2010 model) had crossed 50K kms on odo. Oil level started to drop & engine lost compression. There was no white smoke but oil levels dropped noticeably every 300 kms.
Mechanic said bore piston assembly needs to be changed. I got the engine reworked (changed bore piston kit, cam, timing chain, got the valves reworked). Changed the chain sprocket assembly & clutch plates.
Post engine rework maintained the rpm under 4000 till 2000 kms. I got the 1st service completed at 500 kms & 2nd at 5000 kms. Post engine rework & at 500 kms used Motul 3100, now switched to Motul 5100 post 2nd service.
Got the carburetor retuned for correct air fuel mixture, chain slackness is good, wheels are rotating freely, but the engine tops out at 6000 rpm even when riding solo (i weigh 70 kg approx). Recently when i tried to rev beyond 6000 rpm the engine turned off & did not start for few mins. Post few mins it started but i felt loss of compression for 5-10 mins post that it returned to normal. It was not due to overheating as the engine was only warm due to weather & the oil level was at max.
Mechanic states there nothing to worry about & performance will improve as it runs more kms.
I understand eventhough it is a new bore kit, i cannot expect new engine performance or reliablity but is this normal for new bore engines ? as i am planning to take the bike for long rides.
