Hello all,
I was in the market for a used Royal Enfield Thunderbird and personally love how the older 2002-2012 year range Thunderbird looked. From what I understand, this year range covers 2 generations of the thunderbird: Gen 1 (AVL engine 2002-2008) and Gen 2 (UCE Twinspark engine 2009-2012). I am new to Royal Enfields and thus would love to know what the veterans and experienced members here had to say.
Broadly speaking, I wanted to choose between the AVL thunderbird and UCE Thunderbird. Criteria is: ease of maintenance and trouble free ownership (easy availability of spares, cheap to maintain and reliable). Will mostly ride the bike in and around Mumbai on the weekends. And I have a budget of 50-60k rupees.
Attached below are pics of the bikes I am talking about. I have heard that the AVL was a "problematic" engine so would love to know more. The Red bike is the AVL and the silver is the Twinspark!
