  • I feel cheated when I see KTM duke 200 :(

    Guys,

I have been riding bike since college days and now after 6 years, I feel cheated by seeing all good bikes coming one by one to the market. Do you guys too feel the same ?

Yes. I feel the same when I see my colleague's new KTM duke 200. And when I rode his bike yesterday I was literally disappointed with myself for not having this kind of a bike. It reminds me of my Yamaha RX days and I thought RX is the only bike which can bring smile in my face but, I sold it last year because of its countless issues.

And then I decided to buy a 150cc 4 stroke bike with very good fuel economy. Was happy with it and often felt absence of that kick which RX used to give. Same time I started observing some of the finest bikes coming to the market of-late like YAM R15, CBR 250 and then KTMD200...........enough Why this guys dint come when I was buying my 150cc bike

Sorry for that lengthy emotional lines . Now the actual query :

KTM is the bike (under very good price point i.e 1.3 lakhs on-road) which I felt is the most stunning performer on Indian road today,be it in any segment ( I have driven most of the good performers). The engine never felt tired and its not giving up kind of bike...2 stroke lovers will jump with joy !!

Now, is it a good decision for me if I sell my current bike which is just 10 months old ? Did anyone had similar experience ? (I am sure this is not the problem only with me )

Well, it is a tricky question and the only guy who can answer is you! The market has just opened and you'll see more and more new and tempting bikes in the market pretty often now.

To keep it simple, if your pocket allows it, yes you should go for it.

Then before giving into temptation, also think what is the primary use of your bike and are you not satisfied with your current bike? How long were you planning to keep it when you first bought it?

      reminds me an old joke,

It mostly also depends upon what bike you currently own. Pulsars and (Hero) Hondas tend to hold their resale better than the others.

But, even though a 10 month bike is practically still almost brand new, you will have to take quite a bit of a hit on the resale. If however, as SunilG said, your pocket allows you to upgrade, please do so willingly. I know how it feels when you downgrade from a 2S to a 4S. As I always say, always buy the most powerful bike in your budget. Nothing else will keep you satisfied long enough.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Thanks... its not about a discussion being possible or not.
I can find you a few more threads especially the extremley popular mud slinging "auto sales in a month thread" which are perhaps even more useless when it comes to a encouraging a (fruitfull) discussion.
The report was more about it being a genuine query by someone and hence did not deserved to be locked. You saw an unknown 150cc bike. I saw a emotional question that the member had. Like I updated a few days back. I just see a bit different! My Problem

          Precisely...

When I confirmed my booking for the 650, it was a day when the 2012 version of it was to be launched. A week when triumph was to announce its lineup. And a few days before the Monster 795 was to be revealed to the masses!
Imagine putting that kind of money and not be sure!

Like they say, a bird in hand is better than two in the bush! I took the plunge and got the 2011 version, ridden it a fair bit. A friend waited for the 2012 version and is still waiting for since an year!

You have a bike at your dissposable, if you like the duke, buy it if not to replace the old bike, then to compliment the old bike!

Like Sunil said, what you intend to do with your existing\new bike is the main debate here. Answer that, and your answer is easy!

Even I thought why this thread was locked! Thought of putting a visitor message, but it was opened before I could send

              Anyways,
What this guy probably felt today, I would have also felt it last year if I would have bought the P220 carb and I would have missed out on the KTM Duke.

This is bound to happen.. New and interesting bikes at good price points will keep coming in the market.. just like mobiles, TV's, laptops etc.

If you are on a budget, then might have to wait till the current 10 month old bike is old enough to dispose and then take the plunge.

Enjoy your current bike in the meanwhile

                  Everything evolves in life.

I like the joke posted by Sunilg , Be glad we are not talking about a girl you married and now you see a better girl . I believe that buying a bike must be a emotional one not a one based on logic and numbers. A bike is bought by the heart. If I had the money I'd have gone crazy deciding what bike I'd want to buy.

Your dilemma is whether to sell the new bike you brought and go for the KTM, well then what if you ride something better than KTM and than you again feel cheated, saying I should have gone for that bike. If you want the KTM, sell your current bike , for which you may get a good deal as its a new bike and buy the KTM .

I agree that "Everything evolves in life". But there are certain things (bikes) which lives evergreen forever. I was in search of such a bike. When I sold my RX, the first thing I did was searching a well maintained RX again . But changed my mind because of the issues I faced earlier ( that was a big mistake).

Joke about "new cell phone" was good..but people still love MotoRazr , Nokia 6600 I seen people still preserve them like diamonds ...we know why.

Anyway, Thanks experts for your valuable advice I am making my mind & preparing my pocket for this

What do you guys think, currently which bike can survive the test of time ? I appreciate your time ..

Agreed that some bikes live/remain exciting forever, but eventually one has to move on in life and get acquainted/be at par with the things in the present day.
For ex: in bikes with the new tech coming up FI, Front & rear disc, USD forks, split seats, HIDs, etc. people tend to miss these goodies when riding old bikes as our riding habits get used to all these.

In mobiles, with the introduction of smartphones now no-one prefer old nokia phones with very basic features. Everyone prefer the new age goodies in their phones.

Well, regarding the question "which bike will stand the test of time" is a subjective question and many people can have many answers for that. So, it all depends on personal choices/boundaries.

What you want to do?? RX100 was a legend & thus it "was". It may still be peppy & what not but it's now an age old bike. You may or should I say, should preserve the RX but it's time to move on.
I feel that my 220 is a tractor in comparison to the Duke but still serves my purpose. I am waiting for a proper upgrade too & at the same time know what 220 was & will try to keep it with me, forever.

Uppi (TS) - Sir, I certainly don't have the riding experience you can boast of!
I was barely learning algebra when you were getting your RX 100.

But I have a small advice for you. Don't feel cheated with the new gen machines, there's no need for it!
Even if you feel bad/cheated, it won't affect the things in the real world scenario; but will only adversely affect you. Isn't it?

Keeping in mind that this query of yours was heavy on the emotional side, I can just say that if you're unhappy with the current 150cc mill you have (may we know its name? ), sell it off!
Of course, you can assume a good resale value since its barely ~10 months old, chip in some amount from your pocket and get Duke'd.
