  • Hep: My Pulsar 180 Classic Has Cancer

    Hi,

Yes You've heard it right. But in technical terms Piston Rod/Ring & the piston itself is dieing. My mechanic told me that it wont last long(i crosschecked with different different Mechanics).

I dont want to sell my baby off even though it's old; but it has never let me down. So now its my turn to repay back.

I am getting an average 24kmpl which for me is unaffordable as i dont have any job.
I asked my mechanic if i could get an average above 45kmpl he said that the engine already needs work & that if he changes a few component to that of a 150 pulsar & then i will get that kind of an average. But the gear's shift will remain the same.

Now I've heard you can increase the cc of a bike but how can it be decreased.
He told me that it will cost around 5-6k.

What i want to know is
    Is It Possible?
    Is It recommended?
    Is It a good deal?

I would also like to know the cost of converting 180/150 to 200cc by that i only mean visually.
How much would it cost for complete change to that of a 200cc?

    Thanks.

Nonsense, a full engine overhaul costs under 5k for bajaj bikes man.

Changing stuff to 150 like the camshaft - that's horrible idea man. Beware!

Your mech seem to know nothing abt the Pulsar engines.
1.)Im riding my friends P180 clasic and it gives me close to 40kmpl which is satisfactory for the power it produces.
2.) You didnt buy a 180 to down grade it for a few kms more. Stay away from the P150 crank and the works. Definately not worth it.
3.) if u want a lil better efficiency you could go in for the NGK iridium plugs or the Denso twin electrodes, they increase FE and acceleration.
4.) If youre having a problem with the Gear box, it can be replaced with the ones on the Dtsi. Have done it and its much better than the Classic gear box.
5.) Get in touch with reddy at goregaon for the engine overhaul. He is good when it comes to pulsars on 9821208568.

Get a complete engine overhaul done as Hitanshu says. Shud cost u much cheaper. IMHO, I think u can just open the engine, check if it has any problems and if it does get a new 180 classic bore+piston kit and replace it. Even after all this, if u want to downgrade to a 150, go ahead and get a new 150 bore+piston kit. No change of crank and stuff needed.

I have done the same. It will cost you approx. 5k including head lathe work + new valves, crank bearing changes etc.

There. It should be in the range of 5k.

The critical problem is that no one loves P180 - so everyone tries to pass off 150 spares either without thinking, or "chalta hai" types. What is infinitely painful is that every Bajaj iteration has incompatible engine parts - so (in my knowledge) the same ZMA engine means you get the right parts when you ask for them - but in pulsar, the very same part would be oh so slightly different when you buy it for the wrong pulsar generation.

I don't know what exactly parts he is going to change. but he said that nothing will feel different but just an increase in mileage.

1.)Even a 40kmpl would do just great as to my current 25kmpl mark. Ask him what changes he has made to his bike to get that average as i didn't hear any p180 getting above 35kmpl.
2.) Yeah! thats right i didn't buy it for average but for its shear raw power. But i bought it when i was working & earning around 10k but now its 0.
3.)I've heard that NGK don't do a s**t to the bike in any terms. Dont know about Denso. Even if they increase mileage it will be just by a few kms.
4.)Gear Box is stiff for downshift. but i think its all Pulsar problem.
5.)I'll do that. if you know his address that will be great i can directly visit him with ma bike.

Well i am no pulsar guru but I can hear a distinct sound from the engine expect the Timing Chain sound. It is comming from the rod. & there is a bearing noise too. I did open the Head Block & every thing was black (Time chain sprocket, The Valve springs etc.)I dont know how to open it further. I dont have the right tools.
I can't go about & change first to 180's bro+piston & if that dosent workout then change to 150's as i only have 5-7k budget & i can spend it on experimenting with the different bore+piston Kits.

So True. But the only reason i want to change it to p150's part is because it will give me more kmpl that is approx 100% more than what i am getting right now.

                    Dont do this stupidity
sorry for my language but its simply ridiculous its like putting scooter tire insted of the original once on a bike just because it comes cheap

Get ur engine overhauld or change the bore piston which ever suits ur budget the latter being the prefered method give it a nice service
and remember after doing this job use ur bike as u would do till the first 1k for a new bike coz ur engine would be new there is a garage in vile parle east on shahaji raje marg Namely sai auto garage their mech are the best i know it is just on the straight road from garware company
                    All the best

Ps i have the ug 3 version of the p180 i am getting an average of about 50-55 once on a test i got 63.5 kmpl
                    BELIVE IT!

Hey dude, Ithink you bike is old get it overhauled it'll be fine.. FYI I have a P180 ug3 and it never returns less than 43-45.. i mean never under normal riding conditions..

Dont put in P150 parts, it would be horrible and not reliable too..
Just replace with a new 180 bore+piston kit, clutch + pressure plates, all new bearings with a new chain set and new timing chain, Get the carb cleaned and well tuned, use some semi synthetic oil like motul 5100..
u'll get back atleast 70% - 80% of the life back from your engine..
                        Fun Starts at Redline!!!
