  • My pulsar 150 classic

    Hello everybody.
    I own a 2003 pulsar 150 classic model. The bike is in really good condition. It has clocked around 60,000 kms but has slowly started to loose its performance now. Crossing 80 kmph becomes a problem sometimes and the double seat performance is really boring.

    I want to know what could exactly be causing this (i hope its not the age). I even wanted to know how much a K&N air filter fitment would cost n what increase in the performance can I expect after the fitment.
    Plz also tell me the item code or something like that so its better for me to find the right product. What demerits do I expect while doing so. Finally, is it a right choice ? After all I just love my bike and do not want to kill it for a little fantasy.

      Your bikes engine now needs some major parts replacement or overhaul,any kind of filter or performance booster equipment wont do any good to ur old age engine.Plz check ur cylinder piston,valve ,cam,rockers,timing chain,carb,chain set and many things.without any test ride nobody can give any suggestion on what is the exact problem.PLz test ride any other pulsar 150 and compare ur bike by ur self cos u also have 60k kms riding experience on ur bike.these are the just signs of old age mechanical parts what u feel from ur bike.
      NOTHING FOREVER,EXCEPT CHANGE.

          I have a 2002 Classic. I used to worry about my bike not going above a certain performance level. I kept changing parts rapidly in pursue of the original performance. but gradually I realised that there is an age limit to everything and it is probably just a temporary thing to replace/add parts to improve the performance. Surely, you can try but from my experience just let the Classic make its own way of running around.Surely you need to ceck and get things taken care of. Or better if you have money then get the engine block changed to 180 or something. But, remember you cannot really push things off after a certain age limit. I now make sure that whatever is left in my machine I maintain it. Afterall its called a classic and it will be ome "Classic" in the next couple of years and people will pay huge amounts to induct your machine into Bike museums .

            I don't agree with these age related deterioration in performance. I have... and have seen other vehicles that are quite old and yet perform as good as new. My decade or so old Shogun still performs the same way it used to when new... I don't see any performance related change at all. You just gotta know how to do it. If you looking for shortcuts like fitting questionable aftermarket air filters, you definitely aren't gonna get far...

              i second that....my twenty year old maruti 800 can keep up with my friends year old 800, when accelerating flat out all the way upto abt 100. considering tha his car has he advantage of mpfi it is supposed to produce more power, i think i can safel asssume my car isnt producing power thats less than it produced when it was new...and its done 1.15 lakh kms....an overhaul at 1lakh....which means after an overhaul a vehicle can perform as well as it did when it was new

              trust me 4 stroke engines arent supposed to wear out as fast as to strokes since they have a dedicated lubrication system unlike two strokes that are lubricated by vapours...but here ull often find bajaj scooters from the 80's being ridden around while bikes 5 years old are discarded.....the reason fr this is that NO ONE CHANGES THE ENGINE OIL ON TIME. no one reads the owners manual to anything in this country....its like we hav an anti academic environment here....ppl jus hate readsing up abt stuff

              i have often asked ppl --when they changed their engine oil last...

              every single time i got the same damn reply---last time it was serviced----come on ...ur bike could have done 200 or 20000 kms since the last service...

              CHANGE OIL ACCORDING TO THE MILAGE INDICATED IN THE MANUAL AND UR ENGINE CAN LAST UPTO MANY LAKHS OF KMS...DEPENDING ON UR RIDING STYLE.....

              also if u dont do too many kilometres( less than the indicated life of the oil in kms) a year then u need to change oil according to how long ago u changed it last cuz it starts deteriorating once it crosses a certain time period......this time period may extend upto max a year...but i suggest u change ur oil every 6 months.....200 bucks on oil isnt much considering a lot more is spent on petrol....and it will save u a lot of trouble later
