Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
The news only says that a 10w30 SS TRU4 oil has been released by TVS. There are other grades of TRU4 too AFAIK, here is the complete user manual of Scooty Streak ISSUU - user manual by rajaram pandian where the recommended engine oil is mentioned as TRU4 4T only, no grade is specified.Originally posted by Babu Tunk View PostPlease visit the following website to know more.
TVS Motor Company launches Semi-Synthetic TRU4 Premium 4T 10W 30 Engine Oil
EDIT: I just understood what happened, neither of us is wrong. Around 2006, TVS TRU4 was launched, there was only one grade, 20w40 and TVS started "recommending" it to every two-wheeler they manufacture. So old manuals recommend the TVS TRU4 oil which is 20w40. But around 2010 TVS started selling this "semi-synthetic" (10 bucks says it's the same damn oil as the previous one) oil under the name TVS TRU4 Premium (Windows Vista ruined the meaning of the word "premium" forever) and started pushing it. The only grade available is 10W30. So now-a-days they recommend the 10w30 to every vehicle, that just proves how caring those manufacturers are to the customers, after the dubious service intervals now recommended engine oil grades are changing every day.
Also another thing strikes me, for CBZ-Xtreme the recommended oil grade is 10W30 but all my friends who owns Xtreme, fills 20w40 oil and their bikes have been running good for the last 50k kms.Last edited by Cleaner; 03-04-2014, 02:10 AM.I am back!

Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
Please refer the photo of the manual I have posted earlier. Clearly states only TVS TRU PREMIUM 4T OIL. Photo of the said oil clearly says its 10w30. I think i have provided enough information to clarify.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostThe news only says that a 10w30 SS TRU4 oil has been released by TVS. Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
20w40 oil will screwup the cbx Xtreme over a period of time. And also increase the fuel consumption. Some bikes run on vegetables oil, that doesn't mean we fill our bikes with vegetables oil. If you care for you bike and hard earned money we have put our heart and soul in it.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostThe news only says that a 10w30 SS TRU4 oil has been released by TVS. Cleaner Bro Please Free Up Some Space In Your InboxOriginally posted by CleanerNew self start motor is unnecessary, just repair the current one. Replacing starter motor is not financially viable.Originally posted by Saurabh213My Scooty is about to complete 30k kilometer so i was planning to bring it back to it's original condition
few things i planned
- replace spark plug
- new self start motor(current one is not working)
- engine and gearbox flush
- semi synthetic oil for engine and synthetic for gearbox(Please suggest which oil to use )
- new brake pads
- new accelerator wire
- carburetor cleaning
- clutch inspection
please add anything if i am missing or correct me
problems:
Huge Vibration
Loud Engine Noise
No smoothness at all
Engine Power loss
Lazy Pickup
Low Mileage
You can replace the spar plug, costs only like 100 rupees for a good one.
engine and gearbox flush is not needed, they actually damage the engine. What you can do is fill both the gearbox and engine ith diesel and then push the scooty for some distance, then drain the diesel and leave the scooty alone for some time to let the diesel inside the engine evaporate.
The Scooty has centrifugal clutch where plates dont wear down soon, you can change them but be sure to change the pressure springs as they are the stressed member of the centrifugal clutch design.
TVS Tru4 is enough for Scooty but you can opt for Motul 5100 10w40 too, if you like.
The scooty has drum brakes I think, replace both brake shoes.
The throttle cable could be changed if you like but if it is not giving you trouble, you don't have to replace it.
Do not touch the carb, just remove the float bowl and the jets, clean up the gunk there and install it back.
Checking the clutch would be a good idea indeed.
The problems you described, looks like a shot exhaust system to me Scooty exhaust gets damaged easily and the resonator box starts to produce vibrations. Check the exhaust system, replace if needed, your problem should be solved.

Thank You buddy for that awesome write-up
few i would like to tell
i got the motor repaired twice but every-time it would fail after 2-3 weeks
(but can try once again with any other mechanic)
should i get the stock spark plug or any other ?
not motul 5100 but i would like to use shell ax-7
i was thinking to change the throttle cable because the throttle became a bit hard
i already checked the exhaust system there wasn't any problem i found the sound is definitely coming from the engine

As It Rained Today Here In Noida
The Temperature Was On The Lower Side
First I Tried To Kick Start The Scooty
First 2-3 Kicks Were Of No Use
After 2-3 Kicks I Heard An Unusual Noise( To Describe It Was Of Like An Vacuum Being Created )
After Starting The Engine I Let It Run On Idle To Warm Up
Idling Was Normal But As Soon As I Turned The Throttle The Engine Would
Turn Off..Happened 2-3 Times
Finally I Managed To Let The Scooty Moving
And Man,The Acceleration Was Super Sluggish
The Scooty Was Refusing To Pickup Some Speed
Even When I Kept The Throttle At 40-45% The Scooty Was
Deaccelerating itself!
Engine Power Felt Like There Was No Air In The Tires(Checked, They Were Fine)

Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
The new problem is due to improperly adjusted carburetor. The air fuel mixture is too lean, so there is problem starting and sluggish acceleration. As I said earlier, clean up the jets and tune up the carburetor. Your Scooty requires a service from a good mechanic/SVC.Originally posted by Saurabh213 View PostCleaner Bro Please Free Up Some Space In Your Inbox

Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
I have a Scooty ES which refuses to start unless i pump 30-40 kicks. The spark plug is new and carburetor has also been cleaned. Still the problem exists. Some time back it was single kick start and then all of a sudden it refused to start. I gave it to a local mechanic and he mentioned that there is no current and some "coil" needs replacement.
The same was changed and the Scooty does start but only after 30-40 kicks. Once it starts, there is no issue as it runs fine

does this happen only for the FIRST START OF THE DAY or even later on when the engine is warmed up!?Originally posted by rakeshmiglani View PostI have a Scooty ES which refuses to start unless i pump 30-40 kicks. Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
Hey Where Can I Get The 10mm Allen Key ?Originally posted by Cleaner View PostThe amount of engine oil that should be used on Scooty Streak is 750ml, the recommended oil is TVS TRU 4 as per the manual, but if you are planning to get oil manufactured by others, the grade is SL 20W-40 JASO MA 2 AFAIK. The drain bolt is located behind the center stand and it is a Allen (hex) bolt of 10mm size, so you'll need a 10mm Allen socket or a key.
Don't forget the gear oil too, I forgot the correct interval to change gear oil but to be on the safe side, it's better to change gear oil every time you change engine oil. The gear oil is same as the engine oil for Scooty Streak. Use a 10mm socket to remove the gear oil drain bolt. The gear oil capacity is 100ml, do clean up the air filter often to ensure good FE and engine life.
I Wish To Change The Oil Myself As Will Also Be Using Diesel To Clean The Engine And Gearbox

Re: Help needed for Scooty Streak Engine Oil Change
From what i read on the internet. Scooters like TVS Scooty Pep have dry clutch. Such vehicles need JASO MB oil.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostThe amount of engine oil that should be used on Scooty Streak is 750ml, the recommended oil is TVS TRU 4 as per the manual, but if you are planning to get oil manufactured by others, the grade is SL 20W-40 JASO MA 2 AFAIK.

JASO MA nor JASO MA2 are suitable for wet clutch vehicles.
For the gearbox, do not use the engine oil for the gearbox. There is a separate oil specifically for the gearbox.
Only for wet-clutch based motorcycles (which are mostly the ones sold in India), the same oil is used for the engine, gearbox and clutch.
For dry-clutch, the engine oil is separate. The gearbox oil is separate. And since the clutch is dry, it is not cooled using any liquid.
I don't know why TVS is recommending TVS TRU4, since it is JASO MA2 and not suitable for scooters.
Honda seems to have a JASO MB oil.
Castrol also has one.
Shell currently does not sell scooter oil in India, although they do have such a product in their international website.
I don't know which oil is good for the scooter gearbox.
