Please, give me some guidelines here.
---------------------------------------
I enjoy a year 2009 UG4 Bajaj Pulsar 150CC, has run 29K.
Very well kept and is still crisp to run.
I never missed the servicing schedule and maintained it pretty well.
I have just maintained it with stock and original parts and 20w40 engine oils.
In short, I have a descent, reliable and completely stock commuter,
maintained as per the user manual.

---------------------------------------
Now, I require this stock bike to -
1. perform a bit better and reliably Off Road, too.
2. Must not lose it's elegant look and feel.
3. No heavy modifications to the engine. (like bigger bores etc)
---------------------------------------
I intend to do long distance touring on this bike and see our India. (finishing my MSc by then !
)But I intend to ride not more than 250-300kms in a day.
The speed would be moderate also.
Most importantly, I won't be rushing through the tour.
I intend to just savour the moments.
I guess, if I start planning right now, I'd be pretty much prepared and relaxed for my experiences in journey in April'14
than much worrying about bike and other trivial things. Isn't it ?

I expect OPTIMUM out of the bike and NOT maximum.

To begin with, please suggest -
1. a complete overhaul - what things should be included ?
2. which parts should I replace now (or better be replaced) ?
3. Which parts should I replace a few days before to actual journey ?
For now bike has -
New chain and sprockets and Amaron Pro Bike Rider batteries.
Just fitted in August'13.
Changed front Disk and pad once due to wear out.
Rear brake pads are also relatively new, for now.
Replaced a bursted CDI kit once a few months back.
(LoL ! It stopped working in front of the garage, only. Didn't even push the bike to garage.

)Everything else is just stock and running smoothly.
----------------------------------------
Also, I'd be maintaining the bike on my own and want to know every bit of the bike.
The more I'd know about her maintenance, the more self-dependent I'd be in travel.
I'd refer xBhp and my trusted mechanic in case of some confusions.
Please, also tell me which tools should I buy to be able to tinker with the bike on my own ?
(just some random spanners n screw-drivers I've, won't suffice.
)I've already got Pulsar DTSi Workshop Manual from somewhere on internet,
gone through it and need more hands on approach, now.
xBhp forum posts are also proved very very useful to get backgrounder on various topics/issues.
----------------------------------
I have been following xBhp for a while now
and have realized how people here are so tied up together with just a sheer bond - Biking !
Taking all the bikers here for granted and being a part of community.
Will be posting here time to time from now on.
This is my first post.

Thanks in advance,
Harshad Garje
