My dad's SZRR which is 6 months old, and has run only a few hundred km has developed surface rust on one of its rear shock absorbers.
the service manager says that this is because the bike is hardly used, and regular movement of the shocks will make the rust go away on its own
I'm a bit not convinced with this for such a new bike.

Have found traces of rust on my CBR250R and FZ16 when they were brand new. Found my FZ16's monoshock rusting after there was a small chip on its yellow paintwork. Since the shocks were working fine mechanically Yamaha refused replacement and also rust is not covered under warranty Since it was a minor chip on the paint i touched it up with paint of similar colour which stopped the rust from spreading. No issues after this for the remainder of the 5 years that i had the bike with me.
