I have lost my RC and dont have insurance as well . im in gurgaon so anyone knows process and time to get all papers back. i only have a photocopy of RC left . i think first priority is to get insurance done again. but can insurance be done with just a copy of RC cos i remember i had showed my original once making it ? also should i try and get the rc paper done myself or pay the agents around the transport office near rajiv chowk to do it , anyone know what will it cost me ?

    Query Approved

First thing get an FIR lodged at the nearest Police Station. To get the FIR lodged you will first need to go to courts and get an affidavit made. Only with the affidavit will the cops lodge an FIR. Make sure the FIR is computer generated and properly stamped.

If you have details of your Insurance. Then you can go to your insurance company and get a copy of your insurance. If you don't have a photocopy or details of your insurance. Catch hold of the insurance agent from who you got your insurance done, he/ she will be able to extract your details, provided you can give them the date when you got your insurnce done.

For your RC, you will need the FIR and catch hold of agent at the RTO, you will have to fill in a form and you will get it soon enough. I do not know how long does the Gurgaon RTO take to process, so can't help you there.

    Hope this helps.

For renewal of expired insurance, they would ask for the bike to be checked. I don't thing they would check the RC.
Everything you would have to do is already in the above post.

        Ride safe and have fun.

          Documents lost

I usually keep my documents under my motorcycle's rear seat, on 11.August i gave my bike to marathahalli khivraj for service, i own a KTM duke 390, after the service on the next day i picked the bike up, and opened the rear seat,to my surprise all my documents were missing, i went back to the SVC and they told me.that the mechanic was on leave and to come on the next day,i went there on the next day only to hear them say that they have not seen my papers and they didnt take it.
I do not know how to go about it, my motorcycle is Kerala registered.
          Please help me out. Thanks

You will need to file an FIR for the RC and then take the RC to the RTO where your bike is registered and get a duplicate RC issued. A copy of the insurance is easy enough to obtain from the issuing company.

NEVER keep your original bike documents on your motorcycle.

Re: Lost My Bike Papers , Big problem !!

Guys, so I saw this thread just now, and I have a query, though not strictly related to it. Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread.

So I reside in Virar, Mumbai and for the second time in 2 years I lost my wallet in over crowded Mumbai local train. But this time I also lost my original Driving license . Now I have a copy of NC complaint registered at Railway police station and I have a xerox of my DL, so I need to apply for my duplicate DL. My query is during this period till I receive Duplicate DL, can I ride with this NC copy and receipt for Duplicate DL issue? Is it legal by the book?

I too lost my DL in Delhi airport. Went to local PS in Kolkata & a GD was issued. Applied for duplicate DL & in the mean time kept the original GD copy with me in case I am riding/driving.
Now the last part of your question about whether it is legal or not- Everything is legal in our country, if you confidently carry out the task. Since you have the police intimation copy I think cops will believe your story. Try to have a receipt from the RTO when you will apply for a duplicate DL. Although I didn't have any receipt as I approached a broker for the job. Currently I am working in Assam & here the cops are as bent as Asaraam bapu's inclination towards you know what!!! So whenever they flag me down I just keep a straight face, show the GD and narrate the whole ordeal. Till now they haven't created any problem.
