  • Facing problem with my fz16

    Hi all,

i have been riding my fz16 for past 7 months and completed 6700km and been quite happy about its handling and all. But now facing a problem .

when i shift gear from 1->2 and 2->3 even on little accelerating it pulls the bike ( jerks forward) as if i have accelerated it too much and also
while riding at constant speed (around 18kmpl) in 2 gear ,the bike pulls itself forward ( jerks forward) even if i have not raised the throttle .

same problem occurs when i accelerate after shifting down from 4th to 3rd (or 3rd to 2nd) .

i went to SVC to tell about this but during that time there was no problem

Everyday i ride for 40km is it beacuse of too much riding?

This weekend i will be done with 4th service and after that was thinking of changing to NKG iridium spark plug ,K &N air filter and HID lights.
Are they worth ? and does spark plug and K&N fliter increase performance?

    Please help me
    Thank you .

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

*I have seen this problem of bike acceleration forward on its own on a friends Pulsar. The culprit was found to be faulty choke cable. When the chock is engaged, the bike would accelerate on it own. (I can't be sure if its the same problem or not. Better get this checked)

*40km ride isn't too much. Even i used to ride 45kms daily to my college.
*These NGK iridium spark plugs are not or much significance on our small cc bikes. What you can do is change the stock NGK plugs every 6 month and you would be just fine.
*K&N filters. huhh !! Apart from a throaty sound, there is only damage to the engine and nothing more. Search the FZ thread for more regarding this. They would cause damage to the engine in the long run. And if you really want to use these filters, then you have to do proper carb-tuning to math the increased air input and same with the exhaust.
In short, they are not worth it.
*HID-lights, if you have the greens, go ahead. They certainly looks cool and also have good illumination.

In place of K&N filter, get you bike installed with Steel-Braided Brake Lines. They would improve the braking efficiency to a good extent. You can go for HEL brake lines. These are for 3700rs something. Same cost as the K&N filter.

      Ride safe and have fun.
      Regards
      Nadeem

Thanks dude , will get choke cable checked

Jerks forward means the bike suddenly leans forward as if you have braked suddenly? If so, check the spark plug condition, the spark plug cap (the black wire fitted on to the spark plug), check for any blockage to the inlet port. Hope the fuel you use is of good quality. Adultrated fuel causes jerking.

As mentioned by fellow member, don't go for Iridium Spark Plugs and K&N filter, no significant improvment.

          Cheerz!!
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

no, its the other way , i will be pushed backward like when throttle is raised abrubtly (but i raise it in slow manner )

Re: Facing problem with my fz16

Do not think it is a choke issue, if choke is in pulled state when engine is hot, the engine will simply die and will not accelerate.
What is the idle rpm with no throttle and the bike in neutral?

now its 1.5..... you are hinting that i should reduce it to 1.2-1.3 and try ?

Check the free play in throttle and clutch cable. I think they both needs to be reset.

No, 1.5 is correct only, was just checking if the idle is too high resulting in acceleration/jerk.
Check the clutch also, does the bike stall/jerk when you shift to 1st gear from neutral in standstill?

some 2 to 3 months back my clutch cable had snipped and had to replace in the near by garage , after month or so after replacing this problem started to occur.

no problem when i shift from neutral to 1 gear.
