  • Need Help: Engine Sound Problem for Pulsar 150

    Hi,

I need some help on my engine sound problem. I have Pulsar 150 DTSI and it has ran 10k till now.

Whenever I start my bike, a sound comes from my engine like tak-tak-tak. When I checked other bikes related to this sound, they don't have, they all have a smooth sound.
Later when I went to the Bajaj service center and told them about this. They told that this sound is ok and later they did something. So, for some days there was no sound, but later it started coming once again.
Then I showed it in a local garage near my place regarding this. The mechanic told that the timing chain needs to be replaced.
So, I'm confused what needs to be done and who is correct.
Please suggest me what I can do to solve this and get my engine corrected.

And please suggest any good mechanic near my place. [i'm staying at Marathalli(Bangalore]

    Thanks in advance

    Query Approved

That peculiar sound can be of two reasons, one is that you need to have your tappets adjusted, second, is as the mechs rightly pointed the timing chain and or other work intenstive procedures such as work rocker or cam. But for now, just make sure these two things are taken care of.

As said by the mod... Engine sound could be an intensive procedure or sometimes something basic so your best bet is to start diagnosis by a process of elimination... Eliminating causes starting from the easy ones like tappets first, timing chain... and so on...

Fingers crossed that its something basic and routine... at 10k kms you dont want anything more...

What is your normal riding style? High rpm or Low rev Engine knocker? Did you run it in properly?

      Cheers.

I'm just a city rider. Rarely I go for long trip. In my case it is low rpm, max it is 6. Since in bangalore, lot of traffic, so the clutch & brakes are used very frequently. Else i run it properly.
Also one more thing to ask, are you aware of any good mechanic near marathalli area or nearby where I can give the bike for servicing ?

        Thanks in advance

Low RPMs can also cause problems, common error is engine knocking where a lot of mechanical stress can cause loosening of tappets or even the timing chain. Always try running your bike in its optimum RPM below the redline and not too low. But since you're not a pushy extreme rider you shouldn't have much to worry about.

I know bro... i empathise, freakkin crazy sometimes out here. Although I must say if you normally load it up with a pillion and constantly ride it a lower gears in Bangalore traffic it can amount to a lot of stress to engine components like again tappets, timing chain, valves etc...

          Else i run it properly.
What i meant to ask was - Did you do the 'run-in' of the bike? As mentioned in the owners manual when you first bought it?

Also one more thing to ask, are you aware of any good mechanic near marathalli area or nearby where I can give the bike for servicing?
I'm not the right person to answer this, have no clue of mechs in that area... I'd say go to an ASC and talk to the Chief Mechanic asking him to start non invasively to begin with but solve this problem once and for all.

          Thanks in advance.
You're welcome mate... Hope things get sorted out quick with your ride. Do update on the thread.
          Cheers.
