  • Help needed in modifying headlight - RX 135

    Hello Guys,
I have Yamaha RX 135 from past few years. The stock headlamps are very weak, to work properly in the night.
I searched forums for improving those headlamps, and found few threads. Those threads are very old, and none of them provide exact information I am looking for.
So I am requesting here, ways to improve stock headlamps.

    1. Is it advisable to wire headlamps directly on battery, instead of dynamo? Will that affect battery life severely?

    2. Is installation of HID lamps possible via any mods in electric circuits? Will battery able to handle that load?
If not, can I modify/upgrade the battery to handle the additional load?

    3. Any other suggestions to improve stock lamps?

    4. I am currently living in Pune. I hear there are several shops in Nana Peth. Any fellow xBhp member can recommend particular shop?
I heard from someone, 'Tilak Auto' in Nana Peth might be able to do that. Does anybody has experience from that shop?

I would greatly appreciate any pointers you have.

    Thanks!

    Query Approved.

    Welcome aboard.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Personally I'd get a 100/90 kit from Ron but I do not think they are available as of now, so I suggest you get the stator coil rewinded and use a Piaggio Ape RR unit. This will enable you to use a 70/65 bulb on full DC mode without draining the battery.
      I am back!

you cannot wire the headlamp directly to the stock battery , it doesnt have the capacity to support the headlamp and will drain rapidly

yes it is possible to use hid but you will need to upgrade your battery to one of higher rating say 5ah , yes it is possible to upgrade the battery

        3. Any other suggestions to improve stock lamps?
as cleaner said the simplest mod will be to get your lighting coil rewound , adapt an ape,s rr unit and run 55/60w headlight , it will be more than enough to light up your nights

Ps go for the rewind job in the long run it will work out to be more reliabe than hid provided it is done by a competent technician

Sorry, I didn't really understand what you said; I'm basically a noob . If I simply ask any mechanic, will he understand them easily?
If possible, Could you please explain shortly, what do you mean by -

          1. get your lighting coil rewound
          2. adapt an ape
          3. s rr unit

Light coil is there in the generator/magneto. Rewind it for more power output
            APE is the auto ricksaw
You need to get the RR unit of APE, you can ask RR unit and the dealer will understand!
            Hope this clears

Re: Help needed in modifying headlight - RX 135

                Hey guys,
Sorry for late response, I was busy with work, and couldn't visit my mechanic.

I gave my bike for servicing yesterday, and explained him the suggestions mentioned here. He said following -

                1. get your lighting coil rewound
-I should have mentioned, my Yamaha model is the latest one, the one with round meter and central lock. Mechanic said that older models had 5v coil plates, but yours already has 12v model. Is this what you guys are suggesting? To rewind coil plate wiring to get better voltage (12v instead of 5v)?

                2. adapt an ape's RR unit
                -
For this, he admitted that RR unit might change the regulated voltage, and pass better output to headlamps. For test, he tried to put pulsar's RR unit in my bike. But that didn't improve the lights. They remained same.

                3. 55/60 W headlamps
                -
This seemed bit confusing to him. He said that light socket can only fit bulb with 35/40 W ratings. The 55/60 W bulbs are used in cars like Maruti 800.Could you please explain how to achieve this? Do I need to change my headlamps sockets or complete headlamps? Can I keep using stock headlamps?I don't want to change my stock headlamp looks if possible.I asked him to fit new lamp and see if that changed anything. It improved moderately, but still not what I am expecting. I really want this mod to get done.
Thanks for all your help till now, I am really grateful!

which part of the above statement cant you understand

do one thing go to face book and search for ravi nagesh kit , it will come with the coil assly , magnet , cdi and rr unit , you will just have to change the headlight reflector, bulb holder and lens to that of a dcm toyota truck after which you can use a 55/60 watt bulb

Even for 12volt the coil should be rewound for higher current drain. for 55/60 or 90/100 watt headlight. Earlier rx100 came with 6volt electricals.
                    2. adapt an ape's RR unit
                    -

RR is rectifier and regulator. If your dyamo is not generating enough current changing it will not show any result.
                    3. 55/60 W headlamps
And additionally you have to change the dome of your headlight. I have installed yezdi doom and with 55/60 watt headlight it is much better on the highway. The higher the wattage the reflector will wear the sooner. so you have to replace them. bulb will be of H4 socket same as what is used in cars.
