  • Front wheel's fork seals for Bajaj Discover 125T?

    Hello Everyone!

I've recently bought a Bajaj Discover 125T, exactly 2 weeks ago. I admit that I am sort of a newbie (I'd be very grateful if you could ignore the stupidity, please ) It was yesterday that I noticed oil on the rod of one of the front forks and even a few drops on the floor. I wiped it off, rode the bike, and there was oil again. Looks like the fork seal needs to be changed. I've also owned a Hero Honda Splendour Plus and I really doubt if it ever faced such issues, plus its maintenance was not my concern at all, but this one is completely my responsibility.

So, my question is, Is this something you call a normal issue with the bike (regarding both the maintenance cost and performance of the vehicle) ? How much will I have to spend on that? Also, should I take it to a local mechanic or to the Service Station (a 30Km ride)?

    Thanks for your time!

    Query Approved

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Take to SVC and get the seals+oil changed. Won't cost you more than Rs. 200-300 for one fork.
Nothing to worry, happens to bikes.

      Ride safe and have fun.

Thanks a lot for replying . I was just wondering if the 30km ride can damage a leaking fork, but now I am going to take it to the SVC for sure. I've heard that the amount of oil needs to be very specific, and the local mechanics can make a mess of it. The user manual gives no clue about the amount to be filled, maybe the SVC people know it better. Any ideas?

Ya, take to SVC and no problem with a 30km ride. Take it slow out bimpy roads and get it changed.
Also, ask them why did it started leaking so soon. It shouldn't happen to new bikes. Maybe a bad seal from the factory itself.

          Ride safe and have fun.

Some are lucky to not bust a seal even after 30000 kms, some not so fortunate
Do take it to the svc (not that all mechs at the svc are better than the so called 'local' mechanics) and have it fixed, so that if it gives away again, you can give them a piece of your mind and complain to Bajaj customer care.
And yeah maybe the svc guys know how much oil to put in each fork. and this info is usually in the workshop manual not the user manual for most bikes, and the svc should be having a copy of it.. see if you can get a peek in to it and update us on how much is actually required.

That indeed is very true. I don't even know many people who have experienced the problem. I'm going to talk to them about this. However, at this time, I am more concerned about riding 30Kms on a damaged fork. I don't want more damage

Actually we have a 'family-friend' sort of guy at the Agency. So I think the issue should easily get fixed. And yeah, I'll try my best to get the sneak peek

Okay so first of all sorry for being such a schmuck. I should've replied earlier.

I had horrible experiences at the SVC. They didn't even had the tools for opening the fork. I wonder why they even call it a service center.

Anyways, the family friend link worked and they replaced the entire fork from a new bike. Being a new biker, this was sort of an eye opener for me. Never trust the SVC guys blindly.
