  • Royal Enfield Bullet Machismo 500 - Wheel rim and tyre related

    Hi guys,

    Need some advice.

I have a six yr old machismo 500 in excellent condition. The problem is with tyres. Expected I guess.

I have had a lot of punctures (rear mostly and front a couple of times) of varied nature - the last one was caused by spokes i.e. on the inner side of tube. Also my tyre has formed couple of cracks.

I am planning to correct this issue. So, what all shall I replace - Wheel rim only, spokes only, or tyre n tube or everything?? Both tyres?

Any suggestions on combination? I don't want any fancy stuff. Reliability is important.

    Thanks for reading

    Help Topic Approved.

Spokes causing punctures? Ok. With no personal experience with Machismo 500 or any RE/ Bullet, I can only add that generally spoke wheels are considered stronger than Alloy wheels.
Secondly, for installing tubeless tyres tubelessly, alloy wheels are compulsory (exception are some BMW's). I've done this conversion on my P180 UG3, and it has tubeless tyres on both ends now. Just a valve needed to be fit, and the tyre, that's it. And it was reliable ever after.

I've seen some bullets with white alloy wheels and they looked good, although not so much in the "Classical" perspective.

I feel that the tyre change is evident, but the wheel since it is a steel rim it can be mended and the spokes which are beyond repair maybe changed. That should suffice, but again if you could change the wheels along with the tyre why not go for it?

If you are okay about upgrading, why don't you upgrade the wheels itself to alloy wheels. . ? Looks trendy and not many have them, makes your's look unique. . .

See how it looks good. . .

Now coming to tires, if the tires/tube is old, consider replacing them as old tubes/tires are prone to puncture more. . .

Again as said above by the Mod, spoke wheels are better than alloy wheels, considering the fact that they are cheap and any small issues like bends can be rectified. . . If the cracks are too much, considering changing the spokes, else as I said you can upgrade your wheels in the whole, might/might not look fancy but seems to be reliable. . .

        Cheers!!!

are you using original tubes in your bike? sometime due to local tubes these reoccuring punctures occur.
if tyres have grooves in good condition then there is no need to change them.

when next puncture appear , check condition of tube and get it replaced if it is local and get a better quality tube.
