  • Need help in changing engine oil from Mineral to Semi synthetic for pulsar 150

    Hi Guys.

Need your suggestions for changing the engine oil.. Currently am using Bajaj DTSi engine oil, which is mineral. Now i have to change to Motul 5100 which is semi synthetic. Do I need to do a engine flush before going to semi synthetic or just drain the old and pour the new one..My friend suggested to use a cheap semi synthetic first for 50-100 kms and then put the motul 5100. In that case which one is the cheap semi synthetic oil available. Any quick help really appreciated

    Cheers,
    Sam

    Help Topic Approved.

Firstly, changing from Bajaj oil is a good decision. Personally, even I've faced trouble with it, much before its claimed life of 10,000 kms.

See, there are engine flushers available in the market, although I haven't used any of them. But, they're to be used only in the most extreme of conditions, like to clear out iron fillings, wear & tear debris, toxic waste, etc. You can keep the bottom engine oil drain knob open for 10 minutes, with a tray under it. That should empty the engine oil well. And you can close the drain knob and fill in the Motul 5100 directly after, is what I believe.

If you still want to fit in a cheap semi synthetic in between, it would probably be Castrol or Valvoline 4T premium I guess, because some others get more expensive, closer to Motul itself.

Other members, please advice on the topic....

One uses flush to remove sludge from the engine.. there is no sludge in an engine which sees regular oil changes and use standard oils.
You dont need a semi synthetic to flush the engine. You can use a good mineral to remove old oil completely.
How I did it the first time?- Bike clicked first 1000 kms. Drained old oil and replaced the oil filter. Filled in the new oil.

Thanks for the quick reply. But is there will be any issues if there be a small quantity of mineral oil which left around in the engine mixes with new semi synthetic

No issue over there, just give some good time after opening the drain bolt to drain away the old oil. The quantity of old oil would be too less to cause any difference. All the best!

Yep new pulsar is all DC, Mine was UG2. Converted it to Full DC. Avenger coil won't suit in Full DC one.. I used avenger coil when it was AC/DC..after that rewinded to more power to use 100/90. Now back to stock setup again with full DC, Need to see the feasibility of coil rewinding here too

Why will avenger 180 dv11.... coil be not suitable in a dc setup?
I am just curious brother and since you have already done it I want to know the benefits etc

the wires and the pin which is coming out of stator is entirely different in AC/DC stator and DC stator. That is what the mechanic told. otherwise i could have retained my re-winded coil. It was supporting even 130/100 bulb with full brightness.. i was using that with amby seal.. Full DC benefits-- you will get full brightness with out giving accelerator and the light is study, no fluctuation... even i have an option to go for HID in DC set-up.. other than that i don't feel anything extra with full DC setup

Bro..Avenger coil with 60/55 will do the job.if you want to change to digital console entire front doom and wiring needs to be changed(UG3 setup with AC/DC). If you can get the coil re-winded you can go with 100/90 philips bulb.. it gives a good throw.. good for night drive.. on coming vehicle will dim there light with this setup.. i was running with 130/100.. once my reflector got melted with 100/90. after that changed to Amby seal beam with 130/100.. will send you the full part list for the complete DC setup if you needed.
