So this is back in december 2013 , I serviced my Honda Dio(2010 Model) from the Honda service center guys (Pilot Honda) - Decarbonization, petrol tank clean up , Handling issues, etc. They gave me a bill of 3k . So after that I decided to go to do a road trip (Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai) . I was about to reach mumbai when the engine suddenly stopped , I waited for 10 mins and then started the engine, I heard some weird noise coming from the engine continuously. Went to a mechanic nearby , He said there is no engine oil in the engine (I was shocked) and that the engine has been seized. he put some engine oil in the engine and I decided to reach Mumbai in that state so that I can give to Pilot Honda guys. The next day I give it to the Service center guys , they said that the engine has been seized and it will cost 12000 for a complete engine rework. I instead decided to go for a local mechanic , who did it for 2.5k . So till now the engine was working fine. But when I used to go above 60 kmph , The same noise would start and then after cooling the engine it would sound normal. So Yesterday I came back from a road trip (300kms ) and the same problem has occurred and the noise is permanent. The engine has been seized. I'm tired of this, what should I do ? I want the engine to work for long period of time. I can't trust these mechanic . I still suspect that the Pilot Honda guys did not put the engine oil after the service . Can any one help me find a genuine mechanic in Mumbai ?

Its not very surprising for the service center mechanics to not fill the vehicle with the required amount of engine oil! there have been similar reports earlier.

Well, looks like a major screw up somewhere along the line. First pls do provide more info on the following:
1. What was involved in the engine 'rework' ? Considering the amount you mentioned, i think it should have been a rebore + new piston kit ??
2. Was any other repairs carried out on the valves,timing chain and related components? Like checking/adjusting/lapping/replacing.. ??
3. Did you replace any bearings or do some rework on the crankshaft/con rod ?
Just so you know, a new block and piston kit (OEM) should cost around 3200rs , and the other parts like valve kit, timing chain, cam shaft etc are also not very expensive. A total engine rebuild including replacing all bearings /seals should cost around 7-8k including labor at a competent mechanic.
See if you can identify a factory trained mech at the svc (i ve seen most svc's have at least one sensible mech) and try to have him work on your scoot..not necessarily at the asc maybe outside.. it will require some effort from your end to talk him into this
Maybe someone from mumbai can guide you to a 'local' mech to help you out..Comment

There is not much DIY you can do to fix this problem.. u need the help of someone/mechanic who will check and rebuild the engine if necessary - and you will probably need a new standard block & piston kit and a valve kit replacement too... plus any other item that may need replacement as deemed necessary after opening up the engine.
As i mentioned earlier, i good rebuild will cost around 7-8k = and i am surprised why the asc is charging 12k!! A friend of mine seized the engine on his aviator (ofcourse he ran it without oil, and was not aware of the concept on oil and oil checks/changes) and he was charged 5000rs for a new block piston kit, valve lapping at the ASC..this was an year ago.Comment

Can't help you much here since you do not seem like a DIY guy and this requires much more effort than just newbie DIY - You need to find a mechanic and go over the things that i have mentioned.. try befriending one of the mechs at the asc and see if you can get him to work on your scoot at your home or some local garage..and asc mechs have their contacts in local garages. that way you could easily save 1000-1500 just on the various 'taxes' that the ASC charges..

Ok I went to another branch of "pilot Honda" service center. Very disappointed first he gave a bill of 7k now after the engine rework he is charging 10.5k
He said he has changed the piston, block , valves, crank rod, bearing , belt , bandix (starter) and bunch of other stuff related to clutch , Sometimes i think they are changing stuff just for fun. I saw all the old parts did not find much difference except for piston which had few scratches and valve leakage. Really disappointed . Don't know whom to trust

Can you post a copy of the bill here ? Considering it is the ASC, I am sure the Tax component would have been a significant amount, not to mention that the spares are sold at 'mrp' unlike local spares shop that shave off anywhere between 5%-15% on mrp and do not charge tax.Originally posted by neshnt View PostOk I went to another branch of "pilot Honda" service center. Let's atleast hope the quality of workmanship was good.. Do a proper run in for at least 500-1000km and if you have the habit of holding down the brakes while accelerating, DO NOT do that. Keep an eye on the oil level every couple of days.Comment

My neighbor's 10 year old activa had some problem with bendaxle(as pronounced by the mechanic) and the same has been replaced @850(price of the part)+150(labor)Comment

Bendix was replaced because I had self start issue, I called up the spare parts department (Head office Pilot Honda) and they said the part costs 1550, he took 100 rs extra on thatComment
