Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Wax coats probably can be removed by petroleum products...try kerosene....or put another wax coat...it should make it even and make ur paint look good....also you could try some silicone polish....try contacting Pinaki sir on xbhp...he should have a solution for this

I don't think this is a wax coat. This looks like the clear coat or lacquer coming off. Wax coats can be removed just with simple rubbing compound and soapwater.

Get it to a painter and he'll sand it off. But in the process, the paint will also come off and will need repainting. Which is anyway required, since once the clear coat start peeling off, the paint starts deteriorating and will require repainting.

                Hi,

If its not coming off with petrol and if scratching it pulls it off, then its the clear coat that has faded off. Usually, the service centres will have a bodyshop attached, if not, then any established car garage will have a body shop with a paint booth. Ask any nearby roadside mechanic to get the tank and panels off and give them to you. Make sure you empty the tank. Get the stickers from the service centre.

Sand the surface to ensure all the old clear coat and the paint is taken off, then get the surface painted. After drying, stick up the stickers and get the clear coat applied on the stickers. The clear coat is also called lacquer.

Let us know the results and show-off with lots of pictures.

Prajwal is right , this is not wax . Looks like the remnants of some kind of polymer coat that dealers often pass off as "Teflon Coat" . Did you get your bike the famous indian teflon scam when you bought it ? It is not possible to remove this completely by chemical means , keeping the underlying paint unharmed . It may be possible to remove by mechanical means , like scratching carefully .

You can as well as try this method . i.e Scratching it off with something similar to your fingernail , like say a piece cut off from an old credit card . Wet the surface with water or kerosene for sometime beforehand to soften it . Try to use as less force as possible ... to save the underlying paint - which I think is perfectly good yet . Afterwards shine it up with waxpol liquid silicone polish . That'll clean it up further and take care of minor scratches . Sorry for late reply here .

Scratching it off with something similar to your fingernail = had this idea but only the above portion of tank is like that sides are in perfect condition so dont want to peel of the sides

Thanks for your valuable reply sir

I was also having the same problem and i solved it myself. There is not having enough information on the internet. This is Teflon coating which is peeling off. It is happened due to continuous heat under the sun.
If you are a hard core DIY then u can do this, otherwise get it paint or simply replace your tank.

Buy a 2K rubbing compound from Motomax and leave a wet towel on your tank over the night. Next morning, take a soft cotton, apply rubbing compound and start rubbing it hardly. I mean very hard. Have a lot of protein intake in your body before you do this, because you are gonna loose your calories then.

In my case it was not peeling off. Then i used a buffing wheel with a jugaad on a hand drilling machine. I applied rubbing compound on a buffing wheel and started doing with that. And it took me 6 hrs to done this job. Just because i love my bike.

Don't try to use even 2000 grit wet sand paper, it will put scratch and will look dull. You would need something 6000 or even more like 8000 grit to sand this down. But still i cannot say it will give u better job because i haven't used it. So it will be your trail only.

After u peel off all, apply any good wax (waxpol scooter polish) to protect new paint surface.

Here was my result. Its been more than 6 months, and now the tank looks new.
somewhere i mistakenly put enough pressure and it peeled off my paint.

                        Also check http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post869069

While doing this i got my white center sticker damaged. It was all over the tank before, therefore i sticker to hide some portion of that. After doing this i re-sticker it (you can see the difference) just because i love that, it is like memento for me. It gives my bike a different look. And i can see my bike from far while it was standing in a road side parking or anywhere. huuhh.... just because i love my bike.

Wow, The before and after photos are just about unbelievable. That is surely a remarkable transformation. I would suggest using plain car wax regularly instead of the teflon coats that the dealers push for. Turtle wax is a very good brand and easily available in most parts of India. Wax pol paste wax is also good, but somehow I feel it has a bit of abrasives in it.

i didn't went for teflon, i hate teflon, it was my elder bro who done that and don't even know.
I know turtel wax is good but its not available in my city. Although every guy likes international products and they think its better in terms of quality, Indian goods are not bad even. I'm using waxpol from almost a year, and there are some guys who are using from so many years. Its cheap & best and easily last a month. Bike always shine.
