• Whats Next!! Suggestions on paint scheme

After a grusome 2 years and 25k km my pride and joy needs a nick and tip.... While a normal super biker would firstly never put up some many serious mile Am not the average joe, and neither is my plan to repaint the bike instead of the normal touch up job.

this being the best and the most avid forum for biker i wanted to get in peoples opinion on the paint scheme and graphics....at this point the only thing am 100% set on doing is to repaint it red.... But am really looking for suggestion on shade, themeing chrome or matte black...etc.

Red is a good colour, but which one? 1000's of shades are available, how about completely debadged, no graphics, Busa has nice big fairings that are uncomplicated, to set off your paint you could chrome plate your swing arm/mirrors even visor (unless you require to see through it) Ferrari has a couple of nice reds with heavy pearl effects, also take a look at dupont hot hues, you can also customise your colour if you wish, but keep record of the formula.

Some reds New Gallery: RED Color Roadsters - FFCars.com : Factory Five Racing Discussion Forum
Dupont colour formula's Cromax click find a colour to access, you'll need to select centari (C600) for what's available in India

stefanm - definetly a ferrari red with some pearl or a silver-Gold sparkles added. I think i will mix up a batch tonight and try Red pearl (red with white sparkle) and Red with Silver Gold and red with red and gold sparkle and try it out.

Dupont will be my preferred manufacturer but am open to any other companies based on suggestions

Have you considered vinyl wrapping it?
I believe it gives more flexibility with the colours, and the area. I mean you can vinyl wrap half of it, and leave the other half as it is. Or get the wrap in strips, getting a girrafe/zebra like pattern. And if you dont like the wrap, just remove it.

Beats visiting RTO countless times getting approval of colour change on the RC.

Re: Whats Next!! Suggestions on paint scheme

@neil9381 - Good idea I will post up a video of the mixing and paint process.

@HyperRetard - with Vinyl you cannot play around with shades and depth that can be done while painting. You can added or hold back on the level of gloss; by mixing the sparkle in paint vs. lacquer itself makes a huge difference.

RTO just needs a form filled in and submitted for color change and 550 paid. they enter it and send it back in 15 days. sometime a bribe may be need, but there is no need to visit them many times.

the toughest part of the paint process is the preparation of the surface below is what i did last time

1) Foam washed the bike then un-assembled; rewashed with parts with soap water (vista Car wash liquid) prior to sanding and paint
2) sanded using an 80 grit paper with light pressure using soapy water.
3) washed it with water to remove the dust. this needs to be done a there will fine dust.
4) same as point 2 but with 280 grit sand paper
5) same as point 3

then i let it dry over night in the paint booth; then did 3 coats of primer one more time of sanding; the repeated it once more.
then applied 2 coats of base coat metallic blue followed by 1 coat of laquer with silver and gold sparkle.

Though the pain job looks fabulous since this being my first paint job I did it over 3-4 different days there is a small variation in shade when seen in the bright sun.

^^Rs550? just paint the bike, pay the Rs 200 fine and then process the forms, I paid less than 300 bucks, may help if you have a contact in your local RTO.
You can use any company paint, here in Goa Dupont is the only one available with full range of custom fleks and pearls etc. check out ICI and I believe PPG is available in some areas.

.
you could vinyl carbon fibre wrap certain bits of the bike. i've got started with some parts of my bike.

you should manage to come out on top.

it takes a while to get used to wrapping around without any imperfections but the results are definitely worth it.

really complicated pieces get "easier" to do with a bit of practice.

this piece took me about 5-6 hours.

red + white highlights + carbon fibre bits would look spectacular.

maybe add in a few strips/stripes/highlights of chrome vinyl too.

.

Re: Whats Next!! Suggestions on paint scheme

BUSA bhai, is it just a paint scheme you're after or an overall modification (aftermarket additions)? *contact Brock's Performance, if you know what I mean ! Nonetheless, it would be a delight.

DuPont is undoubtedly the best out there, used by many professional aftermarket/custom paint designers. I have had a discussion with GRZ Customs & Color me Crazy customs of Kerala (TVM) last year along the same lines and they swore by its quality and longevity. BUSA is glam & glitter which implies *Bling* - shiny chrome, LEDs etc. In my opinion, matte scheme won't justify its magnanimous presence -
let me tell you about the Black BUSA (ref. decepticon by Sunny Sir): Unfortunately I had to show Sunny ji the way to church street and man, I was blown away by the attraction it garnered anywhere it stopped. Then again, so much of attraction isn't practical for regular use now, isn't it?!

Anyways, all the best and keep updating with photos of your progress.

PS - still trying to overcome the BUSA fever I've had for the past few days

chaosaddict -

- only the Frame will be powder coated matte black with medium gloss lacquer and PU harder so that the powder coat doesn't peel off of fade over time. PU hardener will avoid the UV rays from spoiling the powder coat.

- Brocks on the Decepticon bikes are full systems costing approximately 1.2 lac; they lack the effect am looking for from an exhaust. my need is for it to sound like a muscle car very raw at idle with a throaty sound like a V8 charger from Fast Furious 1 last scene; a bass sound on the roll. will take you for a spin after the build so you get what I am looking for which the microns only full fill about 70%

- as you mentioned i cannot use the bike as a daily ride if i replicate the Decepticon bikes especially in KR PURAM side. not sure which cop will stop me for the big FAT tire.

- you got me right on the spot with BLING SHINY and CHROME; well this is truly the only bike that can be a macho sportster with all the makeup in the world.
