  • Suggestion for New Bike purchase

    Hello everyone,

I am in search of a new bike which satisfies my need. I have previously owned Honda Shine (6 months), pulsar 180 (2.5 yrs). I recently parted my ways with my beautiful black stallion (p 180) and now planning to have something else in the stead. The following bikes are being considered as a replacement.
    1. Honda trigger
    2. fz/fz-16
    3. apache 180 abs only (purely for safety purposes).

    My requirements are
    1. should be reliable for next 4-5 years.
    2. should be a balanced bike and excellent in handling and braking departments
    3. rear disc would be nice but can give up if the handling is exceptional (e.g. fz)
    4. low maintenance and decent on FE (~40kmpl is enough). I do not ride aggressively and am a sane rider.
    5. Budget 80-90k (can stretch to accomodate apache 180 abs).
    3. Should have a kick start (no cold start problems)

My brain says buy honda trigger and get over, but my heart desires something more beautiful (in terms of design; not sedate).

Contrary what you hear from people, i loved my Pulsar 180. It was just an awesome machine, heavy and was stable on high speeds. I loved it! Two things i hated was that it was heavy at the front end. The sporty or nearly sporty stance during braking sometimes made me lose balance. Second thing, was the cold start problems. Could never start during winter. I absolutely hated it during November-February. Had to always ask someone to push. God!! It was dysmal. However, it never gave me any maintenance problems. Got it serviced every 3 months/3000 km (which ever is earlier) religiously.

I have two questions in this regard...

    1. Is the fz rear tyre a hassle or a boon? While i understand that it is an outstanding machine i do not want to buy a bike thinking about puncture everyday.
    2. I hate vibes, and does the apache 180 abs (2014 model) vibrate a lot. if it does in the 50-70kmph region then i want to put it off as well.

    Thanks for your valuable suggestions

Thank you for the suggestion. I am also inclined toward Fz v2. However, i have doubts lingering whether the absence of the kick start will lead to cold start problems during winter. I had nightmares starting my p 180 all during winter (delhi) early morning and don't want to live through another phase of my life. will being a fuel injection not lead to such problems?

Also the rear tyre puncture problem is it too often in fz?

Fuel injected bikes have very less problem regarding to cold start problem and 95% this is not happen to add more the build quality, handling, road grip, the looks is outstanding.

I have taken a TD of fz v2. it really feels butter smooth. However the OTR greater noida is nearly a whooping 90,000. I also did a TD of 180 RTR and found it equally good.

The OTR for Apache 180 ABS is nearly 94000. Do you think this might more value for the buck? Do these new apache still vibrate?

Apache rtr 180 :- Yup it still vibrates from 4th rpm and ending at 6th I.e. roughly from 48 km/hr to 68 km/hr . However thats about the only con in this beast . Also the abs serves as a LIFE SAVIOUR.....period .
Fs :- Butter smooth engine as you said and now it returns a decent mileage as well but buy it only and only if you have lost the lust of speed and pick up .(Not. recommended for occasional long drives) .
Trigger :- Decent styling , engine , power etc but lacks that fun factor which apache will give you . The waiting period is also quite long and may piss off people .

IMO go with Apache rtr 180 abs because in the same price category you are getting 150 cc's that too without abs .

I would say to go with FZ. Fz version 2.0 is not awesome in looks compared to version 1 (My opinion) but technological upgrades are good in version 2. FZ is flickable, light weight and astreet bike. I own an FZ-S version 1.0 and it hasnt given me trouble (4 years now). Version 2.0 is lighter than old one and gives you more mileage( it s fuel injected). And i hope the seats are more better. FZ won't let you down. It comes with a kicker too.

Apache has a lot of vibes, so i think u won't opt for that. I even TD the new Apache and it has a lot of vibes. But for that price you will get ABS. But i would suggest you FZ.

I don't know much about Honda Trigger.

My initial choice was/is fz not fz v2. As a fz owner I have couple of questions. If you can answer it would of help for me.

                      1. what about the rear tyre puncture problem? How prevalent is it (my first post question as well).
                      2. What about the partly open chain? i faced problem in my p180 after 22000km it screams for replacement. is this the same case with fz as well.
                      3. which model/year do you own and what is the avg mileage.

                        1. The puncture problem has been taken care of. The tyres on fz v2 are of slightly hard compound and will be much more puncture resistant.
                        2. This will be the case with every open chain. The life depends on the running environment and the riding style. Normally the chain+sprockets need to be changed at 15-20k kms. If you ride sanely and take proper care of the chain, it will last more. This shouldn't be a negative point for the bike as open chains tend to take more beating.

As for mileage, that too depends on the riding style. If Yamaha and the reviews are to be believed, the mileage will be 40+ km/L. Member have even got 45+ mileage even on normal fz. So do the calculations.

                        Ride safe and have fun.
                        Regards

                          1) Its been 4 years and i got only one puncture. The tyre is good in my opinion
                          2) You have to lube the chain every 500 or 1000 kms. Mine doesn't make noises . And i have changed the chain only once
                          3) I bought my FZ on August 2010 and the FE is the negative side....gives 33-37 per litre

mileage and chain problems ...all is directly proportional to the way you maintain and ride your bike

                            Hi !
If you are opting for the newer model i.e. 2012 then be assured that the vibrations isn't gonna be much of an issue . Infact after a period of time people love these vibrations .
I was also in the same dilemma whether to choose Fz or apache , and I choze apache and frankly speaking I am glad that I took the correct decision .
My advise would be to test drive an apache in an open road for atleast 15 minutes and then come to any conclusion . Best of luck .
