• Bike handling issues, tyre losing air quickly

Recently I met with an accident when my bike (Pulsar 150 DTSi 2006 model) skidded on an oily patch of road. I fell down anticlockwise and suffered some injuries (healed). Now my bike has some issues:

1. The balance of the bike isn't right. The rear tyre feels as if it has very low grip. I am being forced to ride it at low speed (around 30 kmph), strangely when I increase speed (to 50 or more) the road grip increases greately and I feel a lot more comfortable riding it. When I look at the rear tyre from back, visually it seems to be tilted slightly towards left. But then this "tilt" was already there before accident and I never felt this wobbling issue. This bike has suffered 3 accidents till date.

2. The rear tyre has this long standing issue of losing air pressure very quickly. It loses half of the presurre in 2-3 days, so I have to get air filled every couple of days.

3. The bike doesn't go to left that easily and smoothly. I have to make effort for that now.

Should I go to Auth Serv Centre or a mechanic? Any good mechanics in South/New Delhi?

Query Approved

Maybe a bent fork, bent rim and or twisted swingarm
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

bent rim will result in air pressure dropping quickly. Also a simple local mechanic may not be able to analyze the bent rim or bent fork through mere visual analysis. Take it to the service centre and sit on your service advisor to pin down the issue. Take out the fork and roll it on a flat surface, if you see any gaps or light between the flat surface and the fork while rolling it then it will mean the fork is bent.

The issue should be with swing arm. it's easy to locate a twisted swing arm

Hope you are well now.
Bent rim are always a cause of concern for specially the rear tyre for almost every bike. Go to an authorized service center.

Thanks guys for replying. I am good, the accident happened almost a month ago. Got 3 stiches near eye-brow, healed now. There was a hairline fracture on my cheekbone, it is a lot better now though not 100%.

I took my bike to local puncture wala, he looked at the tyre and said rim is not bent.

Could tyre also be the culprit (but this wobbling issue did not appear many days after accident)? I am on my second set of tyres and the bike has done almost 90k.

stitches near eye brow ? cheekbone ???? first thing- were you wearing a helmet ??

second tyre loosing pressure can be bad tube is its tube type else a minor puncture. if the tyre is done 12-15k km change it else hunt for that leak.

third if the tyre look sideways.. its the swingarm else the rear might be fine but there might a bend in front T else forks..

get the front setup checked and also the swingarm.

check the gap of tyre side wall from both side suspension. it should be same. if its not same its the swingarm.. if its same .. the front is the culprit.

bike not going one side easily : reason: conset bearing/fork alignment/ bent forks/ front T clamp bent..

In short the bike is pretty messed up. Give it a SVC and get thorough checks done. I bet you don't want another accident. Going for another bike altogether will be another option keeping in mind that it's over 90k kms used.

theironhorse99, I was wearing a helmet which infact saved me from serious injuries. But I fell on my face and inside wall of helmet hit my cheek bone. I got the the bush replaced but the situation has not improved much. So I should now get these checked/replaced: Swing Arm, Conset bearing, front forks, front T clamp. In what order should I get them checked? And anything else? I will also get the tube checked for any puncture. nirvaana, I wish I could dump this bike but getting a new bike isn't an option at the moment.

front T-Clamp and the front rim for start... if these are good then get the forks check for any bend .. grab the front brake and try to mvoe the suspension up and down. if it goes smoothly like oher bike then the forks are good ..might be just and alignment issue but if you feel that its feeling little hard or handle moving to one side when you do it then for sure the fork took a hit... if both are good then just the coneset bearing is left.. swing arm is a rare case scenario...

how many km's the tyre has done ? sometimes there are minute cracks that also leak air and are untraceable...
