I am getting back to XBHP after a really long time thanks to my work-life balance (or the absence of it!).
I have been looking for a used /exotic import motorcycle for a while now and I came across a good looking Suzuki Katana 750.
This one was posted at a third-party reselling website and it got me interested. I called up the owner and confirmed that it is a 1996-1997 Katana GSX750F. It seems to be in great condition and well looked after in the pictures. He has recently replaced the carbs, tires and has renewed the RC book 9crossed 15 years). He has also mentioned that leakage at the exhaust header and he has ordered a new set of gaskets. If i remember right, he said it had run around 40k and he is the second owner (Which i dont think is the case, since such bikes go through many more hands that the owners registered).
He is quoting a decent price and the bike is in Salem. I am from Chennai and the bike is registered to KA. I havent yet seen the bike. All paperwork is clean according to the guy.
I need help from you guys to tell me what to check for when I go to see it. Also would be good to know if you have seen this bike anywhere as a Katana is rare and easily noticeable. I am borrowing my friends compression gauge (I am a gear-head), and I have researched about the bike in general and the issues to look for. I have a feeling this guy is a mechanic, as he knows the bike in and out, a little more than an owner of an import and his name is 'Babu'.
I know that the bike is old and that I wont get spares, but I think I can work around that, but jap bikes are quite reliable and I am banking on that.
I would like to pick up this bike nevertheless, as long as it is a runner and use it for 6-8 months as I am dying to ride and have been off two wheels for a loong time, and I dont have deep pockets for a 650 sold in India.I really like vintage and it will mainly be used for a fun ride on a weekend or something.
