  • Help me, New bike kawasaki Ninja 650

I just got a brand new Kawasaki Ninja 650 on 15th August 2014,

It's been just a month but I am getting a bad feel about bike.

    1) When i put bike on 1st gear, there is a jerk.
    2) Bike heats too much even if I just ride it for a mile or so.
    3) I am getting mileage around 10-14 kmpl.(I have friends making 25+ kmpl on 650).
    4) There is burning smell after riding bike. (Plastic burning smell).

This is my first bike so I am kinda inexpert in sports tourers, but is this normal or should I get the bike checked ASAP

    Thank You.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I don't think there is make issue

Jerk is normal and I kind of like it.

Heating is normal too.. Happens when you ride in higher rpms even for a short while.. Try riding in higher gears when in traffic

Plastic burning smell I am not sure. Does it always happen?

Mileage will improve with time. After first service I went for a long ride, got around 23. After 4000 kms am on another long ride, getting 27.5...

              Thank you guys for help.

              1) Plastic smell is regular, even if I ride it for 200 meters, bike starts smelling(even friends are saying the same).
              2) The jerk is so hard that even the people standing near bike notice and ask me "Bhai yeh zatka hamesha lagta he kya"
So it may be problem with chain.

I will get it checked as the service center guy promised me free checkup.

I am not satisfied with the bike, thinking of giving this bike to cousin and getting H-D 48

Dude, Don't abandon her...Just get it checked with your nearest SVC available...may be some loose parts here and there. Should be OK once serviced.

If you are HD kind of rider then the Ninja was always a mistake. But beware you will be making some serious trade offs.. Get it checked once and see what they tell you. Also check the idle rpm. It should be around 1000 even when the bike is hot. If you are idling at high rpms then the jerk will be proportionately harder..

                    this explains the problem,
bike is idling at 1.7k-2k, may be that's also reason for overheating.
I will get it checked now, 15th oct is service day.
                    Thanks.

Adjust the RPM and see for yourself. There is knob on the right side that can be rotated, check the manual if you don't find it..
