  • Please Help me Suffering after buying Apache

Hey guys i am new here but with lots of hope i am writing here please help me. My suffering story goes like this.
After a lots of begging nd trust on tvs i brought my dream bike apache 160 rtr beast model which was turend into nightmare very soon.
I got the delivery of my bike on 19-may-2014 was very happy it gave 55 wopping mileage it was awsome feeling i gave it to 1st service and my bike started giving trouble the head started leaking and mileage had droped to 35kms i always fill shell super petrol. I tried speak to svc but nothing worked my 2nd service was also not fruitful the problem was there so i took the matter in my own hands took it to a local mechanic i applied a lot of glue and fixed the head and the leak had stopped completely now comming to mileage it had increased to 49 i was very happy everything was fine then again the day came 3rd service i promptly went and gave the bike around 9:30am their was carbourator over flow which i had mention to them and mask vibration in job card around 4:30 i recived my bike nothing had changed i guess they did a water wash and oil change that all the carb was still leaking which i again came to my local mechanic and rectified. Now to add my problem the milage has again dropped to 37kms after 3rd service i am 100% sure that it was not my local meachanic fault coz i was im fornt of him while he fixed my bike he just open the part where the flute it and cleaned it fixed it. I took it to service center telling them the milage is low so they took it on some bech test and shocked me again saying my bike gives 75kms per liter. Its hopless to argue with them and my mechanic is not able to fine the fault which is causing this low milage problem my driving speed is max 55 till date i have only twice reached 98. So please help me how do i get my old milage back. I am suffering a lots as i am a student. Help me. Or refer me a good mechanic in bangalore.Click image for larger version

First off, lol what? you trusted the svc? ROFL 😆
Secondly, has the bike lost power? If so claim warranty and put forth a complaint to tvs website. If not then do it anyway. It'll teach those lazy bastards a lesson.
Thirdly, the carb leak seems to be happening due to faulty carb packing and faulty carb float. Get a replacement under warranty stat.
Keep a trusty local mechanic handy at all times. No svc can be trusted with the bike, they don't own it you see so they don't care. I trusted Honda too and ktm but when I made them fear for their jobs, that is when they serviced the bike correctly. What city are you from? Maybe members in the city can help you find a good mech. But don't touch the bike until you make tvs mechanic's life a living hell. Warranty issue you see.

No sir, the mileage will not increase gradually as it shouldn't have dropped so low even in the run in period.
As I said ask for a carb replacement and check spark plug to see if mixture is too rich coz of carb overflow of which I am fairly certain.
Lots of members in Bangalore with apaches inn their stable. Trust me help is on the way soon.
          Cheers 😊

            1. I am extremely sorry for my english.
            2. Ya he applied that engine glue as there is no engine head packing.
            3. I stay in banshankri in bangalore.
            4. I always try to stay under 60 in city because i believe in safty first, in my whole biking experience i have driven only 5 times above 80kms and only twice in this bike

Re: Please Help me Suffering after buying Apache

Hi Shahbaaz, the problems you are facing are not major problems and can be fixed under warranty.
              1. Carb overflow can be rectified by replacing the float pin in the carb. Also this problem does not occur if you park your bike on main stand and put the fuel knob to 'off' position when you park it for long periods of time like overnight.
              2. The engine head leak is common in rtr's after a few thousand kilometres, if its a minor leak then it can be ignored. Keep a check on the oil level over a few months, if the oil level remains the same then there is no need to worry.
But, if its a major leak then get the engine head gaskets changed from the svc under warranty, initially they will refuse to change it and they will keep giving various reasons, but insist on the change until they do it. I think what your mechanic did was that he applied sealant on the engine head to stop the leakage.
              3. Coming to your low mileage issue, carb flooding or overflow will result in low mileage. So get the carb fixed and then check the mileage.

When ridden sanely, rtr 160 gives mileage of not more than 45-48 kmpl.
                My rtr 180 gave 51kmpl during run-in and I was overjoyed :P
37 kmpl for rtr 160 sounds a bit low, but lets wait till he gets the carb fixed and then see the mileage

change the following, carb float, carb gasket, rocker arm cover gasket, get the carb tuned properly by a good mechanic. BTW could you post a picture of the leak? I have seen the leak on quite a lot of RTRs.
                  I am back!

Actually the thing is even if my bike is in center stand the fuel over flows and earlier sometimes even while running u may ask me how i know while the bike is running. When i noticed fuel leakage i tried took that pipe out and left it hanging on my footrest after that i had given to my mech and now the leak is minimal i guess not like befor it use to b like an open drain pipe

Yeah that's right. Let's wait and see. Although I still feel a brand new carb should not leak.

Re: Please Help me Suffering after buying Apache

I feel the problem is with the newer rtr's (the one with drl's).
Now I have seen this carb overflow problem in 5-6 rtr's including mine.
On enquiring at the svc about the carb float, they asked me whether mine was the newer version or the older one, then they said that the older version full carburettor assembly costs around 2800 and the newer one would cost about 2000rs. So there is some difference in the carbs of the old and new version rtr's though the size remains the same (BS26 for rtr160 and BS29 for rtr 180 if I'm not wrong). Will find out more in my next visit to svc

Technically does this mean that there is no solution for this problem.?
And how much mileage does your apache give?

I have not yet changed the carb float as it is out of stock in the nearest svc. So cannot comment on whether the problem will reoccur after the change. But if you read the rtr180 thread the problem ain't very common. Its only a handful of bikes with this problem I guess. So there is hope :P
I am getting about 38kmpl from my rtr 180 with gear shifts consistently at 7k rpm and varying speeds along with the carb overflow problem. A few months ago I was getting around 42kmpl when I was a bit easy on the throttle
