  • Honda CBR400RR Fireblade

    Hello Gents,
Been lurking around in the background for a while now and the itch to get me a superbike is intensifying...

I recently came across a CBR400RR Fireblade in a reasonably good condition. I believe its a 1991 model, traditional red, blue and white color scheme. How safe is it to buy a bike thats almost 2 decades old? (I know ... )

I did ride the bike for a while and the engine felt to be in good shape (no untoward sounds while revving etc). And the engine would rev quite rapidly, a small'ish blip would send the tacho racing towards 8K with a wonderful exhaust roar.

There are some plastic (small) parts that are broken off and the fork oil seals are leaking. The bike as such is not for sale but the owner will let go of it if the price is right. That brings me to the second question, what would be a right price? I am guessing around 1.75-2L mark.

In my hurry (and excitement) I could not click any pictures of the bike. Would do that today.

Looking forward to the response from the resident superbiker's.

    Cheers,
    Hiren

    Query Moved and Approved.

I would say stay away from the 400RR simply because the spares would be real real hard to procure. Moreover, an 18 year olld model is a real old one, no matter even if it's a Honda!
    :)

2 decades old...!!! I dont think you will find any papers in order for that bike.. I suggest u shud lookout for a more recent CB400 ( that is if u r looking in the 400 cc bracket)

Everything you mentioned about the bike, kind of goes into odds for it.
18 yr old, broken plastic, leaking seals etc.
Moreover even the amount 1.75-2L doesnt sound any better.
Not only spares would be a big problem, but also recent models that give you better value for money are available.
I'd rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
Ride often, ride well, have fun.

Thanks Aryan. Was wondering where the topic was posted
          Agree with what you say.

I cant shell out 5-6L (minimum) to get a decent 600, so when this baby came up I got all excited and common sense left the building.

          Cheers

True StreetHawk, I can forget about the papers surely.
I've been seeing a new CB400 in my area, will stop the guy who rides and get to know the details for the same.

          Thanks

What your're saying is true ... Maintenance, spares etc would be difficult.
As I mentioned earlier, I got too carried away with the probability of owning a SBK on the cheap.

Which other value for money bike are you mentioning? Do lemme know...

          Cheers

Also as a refresher, I read a news, though preliminary, the CBR 400R is gonna be given another life by Honda and is expected to get launched. Now it may be pure speculation, but then has gotten my thumbs up.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

            THE END

Wow!!! This is great news. If it's launched, I can see my dream of owning a real (read affordable) sports bike getting fulfilled. Hope that Honda keeps a competitive price if ever it launches this bike. But it should certainly be far less than a Ninja650R or a Ducati Monster, which will be a bloody good thing. Fingers crossed
