• Battey Issue

I have a Desert Storm approx 1 year old. Lately it has developed some problems related to battery.

Initially, I found that, when I start (Self Start), the MIL light glows and turns off after 3 to 4 secs. As days passed, I was not able to self start the bullet. Had to go for kick start.

I immediately gave it for servicing. THe battery was given back to exide and they returned it fully charged. Again the same problems started after a few weeks.

My daily commute is only for 10 kms (total) and last 5 includes riding in dim light in traffic. So from various blogs , it seems that I am draining the battery gradually ( use of light and no speed above 60).

I was ok with only kick start, but it becomes a hassle in traffic. Also now, I had an accident and I cant kick start with my right leg. I have to put the bike on center stand and kick start with left leg.

The one solution that I found is to buy a battery charger, rather than having to give it to exide or local battery shops. The one good option that I came up with is Battery Tender from Deltran.
This is the ebay link.
Deltran Battery Tender Plus 12V 2 Bank Battery Charger System 2-Bank 022-0165

Can anyone help me out with my charging options? Has any1 used this product? Or any other product?
Is there anyway out from this problem. I will not be using my bull regularly. So I feel my option is limited to some sort of battery charger.
If any1 has experience in this matter, Please reply.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Query Approved

You seem to be treating the symptoms rather than the cause.

Either the battery need to be changed under warranty, if the battery is defective. Or you need to check the bike's charging unit, as to why is it unable to charge the battery.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

why are you getting into so much complications ? if the bike is equipped with self start then it needs to work.
now getting to your issue. it can be only 2 things causing this problem.

1> Battery : this time when you take the battery for charging. once its fully charged by local battery guy check the voltage. it should be above 12.5-12.8. if it shows the same voltage then the battery is good. if its less than 12 that means one of more cells in the battery can be faulty and ask for replacement of battery from Exide.

2> rectifier : it should be charging the battery while you ride. now if battery is good then the rectifier is at fault as its not giving proper current to charge the battery. go to SVC and ask them to change the recitifier under warranty.

don't get into charging options. resolve the issue rather than going through a difficult alternative route. keep thumping and get well soon

Fairly new to the forum. So I do not know how to reply quoting multiple people.
The Monk and theironhorse99 : I have already given the battery for recharging and been to svc for checking the battery charging circuits and rectifier. They have told me that it is all working fine. Even if i do it again, I will come back home, and i wont be using my bull regularly. Maybe once in 2 weeks, once a month, that too at slow riding with head lights on. So all this will eventually lead to battery draining rt?
Hitesh100 : Thanks Buddy. I am taking care of my leg. I ride slow and am extra cautious while riding. But cant sit too long without riding.

once in a month will certainly be a battery drainer... however once a week should be fine.. as of now ne battries hold good even after a month.. this time you go to SVC ask them to show you the voltage at battery when the bike is started. it should go upto 14 odd when revved a bit and battery should be above 12.. if both are good at that time that means rectifier and stator are doing its job.. the battery is getting drained as being parked for long...

One doubt though. I can check the battery volt using a voltmeter at home rt?
