  • Yamaha Fazer front disk brake issue.

    Hi All,

This is my first post. I am very new to this forum (so please correct my mistakes is any ).
I bought my first bike Yamaha Fazer on 15 Dec 2014. Its running well. except one thing.

If I put bike on center stand & move the front wheel I hear some noise from front disc brake. Its like very low friction in between brake pad & disc. Is it normal or what .
Although noise in not loud & bike has given me about 43 Km/pl in full city conditions & with full time pillion.

    Thanks,
    Nakul.

    Query Approved

Yes this is quite normal. But as long as you don't hear screeching noise or any noise that's a deterrent then you're absolutely fine. The pads will always be in contact with the wheel to an extent, especially when new, after a few thousands KMS they settle well.

Technically this isn't an issue, it's how it's supposed to be.

    Cheers!

As our mod said, it normal and especially of a new bike. Let the pads settle in and the little noise you hear will fade out.

Go through the fz ownership thread. It will help you in a better way and post further queries in that thread.

      Ride safe and have fun.

Even I am having the issue with my fzs sir it provides screeching sound on applying front brake, also a light tick tick sound keeps coming around 30km per hour.
My bike is 1600 km old only. I went to service center with my complain they greased the front wheel but the problem is same. Kindly guide me.

Sounds like the pads got slightly glazed and aren't bedded in properly. The tick-tick-tick is probably one or more of the pads slightly brushing the disc at a high spot. To bed the brakes in properly, follow this process:

Accelerate to about 60-70km/h, then decelerate hard (as if someone just walked out in front of you) using the front brake only down to about 10km/h (don't come to a full stop), then accelerate quickly again to 70. Do this cycle 10 times as fast as you can. By the 10th time, the front brake may be smoking; this is normal. Then ride for 10-15 minutes at about 40-50km/h without using the front brake at all (you want it to cool off completely). Then repeat the braking cycle and cooling-off period. After the second cooling period, you can ride normally, and your brakes shouldn't make any noise.

Front discs sqeeking sound when coming to a complete stop-engine off. While engine is on there is no sound. Honda crf 450.checked pads, calipers, disc- all good

Hope you have a habit of inspecting and overhauling brakes once a year.

My bike's front disc is heating up too much but the disc pads seems to be ok to me..what could be the other reason?
Wheel feels slightly heavier too while rotating it free hand in neutral gear!!

More details mate, how many km's do you have on the motorcycle? How many km's you have on the pads? Are all components stock?

                        45k kms odo reading.
                        Serviced regularly at Suzuki.
Whole bike has stock parts, changed regularly according to schedule.
Last service done 2 days back in which mechanics again checked the pads & told me that pads are ok, they are yet to find the problem hence denying that there's any problem.

Overhaul the front brake caliper, you would need to procure the seal kit/piston kit(based on your preference).

You could simply push the pistons far out and clean them but since you have 45k on the odo I'd suggest a proper overhaul.

The reason your pads are slightly rubbing is due to the pistons not fully retracting, which is more or less normal on vehicles with similar mileage.
