• Pulsar 180 UG4 Handlebar Wobbling Problem!

Well Hi Guyz, Its been almost 3 years now from my last post related to the same problem which I have experienced from the day one when I bought my first motorcycle. I am putting the old thread link here below.

Pulsar 180 UG 4 steering woblling proble - Old Thread Link

Well so far I have covered more than 55,000 km roughly with my pulsar. My handlebar wobbling problem was never solved though. I did number of things to rectify it so just don't want to go through that history. About 8 Months ago first time I changed my Tires and I was hopeful that my front will wobbling problem( between 55kmph to 655 kmph) would at least minimize then, but surprisingly there was no improvement at all.
After some engineering I found out that the new front tire is not seating properly on wheel rim, its slightly producing an oval shape. Tire Shop owner from where I installed new tires invented that my rim is bent. With a heavy heart finally I decided to change the wheel rim too. But even after so much of effort put(in terms of money) it was still useless but not completely. I observed that now if I over inflate front tire (say around 30 to 34 psi) and maintain recommended pressure at rear tire, the wobbling actually disappears.
I feel that here over inflating the tire basically makes the tire stiff which eventually resist deformation under load. Therefore the tires overall diameter marginally increases. So that means if i upgrade my stock tires 90/90 -R17 (Static Load Radius = 286mm) with some larger tire say 100/90 - R17 (Static Load Radius=293mm) it should help me out with the wobbling problem. I don't care about speedo error with distance covered and actual speed which would occur due to tire size change.
So please help me out and please provide me your valuable suggestions and opinions about the same. Has any body seen or done the front tire upgrade on pulsars with larger tire? are there any other concerns I may have left unnoticed!

Help Topic Approved.

vrnmhjn You wish to open a new thread? ok then.
Firstly, I suggest that you find out the root of the problem before spending any more money. There's no use changing every part one after another if the result is not coming.

Please answer these questions:-

How serious is the wobbling? If you leave the handlebars for a few seconds, does it keep a straight line? And is it between 55 and 65 kmph only or at other speeds also?

See, a tyre upsizing may not help as far as I can understand. Because, tyre doesn't appear to be the root of the problem. It could be the cone set, or the front disk of the brake (although that's unlikely) or something else altogether.
Do the suspension forks appear ok visually, from the front side? And, is there any sign of damage on the frame or anything else?

Hey thanxs samarth for the topic approval.

Well I am using the same bike from 4 years. I think I have contemplated enough over the same issue. And this is the first time ever I have received promising reslults.
About the questions you asked.
1) The wobbling isn't that serious but its noticeable even by the pillion without looking at the handlebar.
2) Yes few months ago I tries and tested my bikes straight ahead stability with hands taken off the handlebar, and it used to pull on left. But then we aligned the rear wheel at home cause no other mechanic was ready to accept that the graduation marks on chain tensioner are also indication of rear wheel alignment with respect to chassis.
3) And last the problem is perceivable only during that specif speed range. Else bike run perfectly normal.

Forks doesn't look damaged by any means. Since I have ridden the bike mostly, I know I have not faced any major accidents till date.

I changed my both tires to new regular MRF zapper. I will say now problem is reduced by 95%. New person wont even notice it. Happy riding to all.
