  • Trouble on Mumbai-Pune E-Way

    Hello guys,

The last weekend i went on my first long ride to Mumbai after getting my TB350. I went with a friend, and both of us had never gone by bike, so didnt know the road very well. We relied on GPS on his mobile.

While coming back his mobile battery was fully depleted and switched off, and we missed the exit to NH4 after Panvel. We realised this after a long time, when we saw a signboard for "No 2/3 wheelers on E-Way." There was no question of turning back, since vehicles were coming at speeds excess of 120kmph.

We went on, and after sometime, we saw the toll building. We could see it from a long way out, because it was brightly lit, and it was ~8pm. We somehow approached the tollgate and found a small road leading away to the left. the metal railing on the left terminated around 1km from the tollgate, and they had kept oil barrels to divide the road from the EWay. We took a risk cut in between the barrels and followed that road, and fortunately that led to the NH4.

Now, my question is, what to do if one is inadvertently on the E-way on a 2 wheeler, and they get caught at the toll gate? Is there anyway we can come out of the mess without bribing?? what are the legal ramifications?

You are lucky you didn't get fined. You have to pay the fine and get off at the next exit. Nothing terrible!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Yes we did feel lucky

but, just in case, what is the fine amount??
also, is just as plain and simple as just paying a fine and getting off, or do they ask to keep the bike and collect it from courts/any other crap like that?? i was talking to a colleague, and he mentioned this, hence asking..

I have got onto the expressway once on way to Bangalore and got off at the exit before Khandala. Managed to convince the patrolling van that I had missed the starting sign and was let off at the next exit.
The toll guy at exit in turn managed to convince me to part with a rs 100 note!

If anything, you need to be more worried about the speeding cars.

Entry for 2 wheeler on E-way is prohibited for various reasons and only small patch between Khandala & Lonavala where 2 / 3 Wheeler's are allowed due to lack of road.

Bribe / Fine - Both are on heavy sides as your bike can be legally impounded and depending upon your luck and mood of police officers

Bribe & Fine aside THE WORST PART IS - If any unfortunate event happens on E-way where your not allowed to ride 2 wheeler you cannot claim any insurance (read even life insurance)
