  • pulsar 150 dtsi giving electric shock

    Hello Friends,

I am using pulsar 150 dtsi since 2009, till now bike did well.

From past two days facing weird issue, while riding my bike, I get electric shocks from tank & clutch. Showed it local garage, he is not able fix.

If anyone faced similar issue, please guide me. Any pointers will be great help.

    Thanks,
    Ankur

Help Topic Approved & moved appropriately.

I think, the spark plug wire is peeling off from somewhere, and touching the frame.... Check both the plugs' wires closely. Also check the alternator assembly.
Its too dangerous to ride the bike right now. Avoid riding it.

The spark plug current is high tension grade, about 6000 volts. So, it might travel though thin air too, so check any open points.

If that's not the case, then the current is arising out of some kind of friction. Probably, static charge is getting created. Have you installed anything extra to the wheel or frame?
What all woolen or fabric based add ons have you added to your bike?

Sounds like spark leakage. Static charge can also be the issue.

Replace spark plug cable. Wash the bike , and see if it makes any difference.

        Any updates?
I hope you have solved the problem or stopped riding the bike. Because, if the spark plug current is leaking to the frame, it can cause severe injury or death.
Plus, its high tension grade current and can travel through gaps too. (No direct contact of wire is required).

Thanks @Samarth 619 and @bobisbacktorock for providing guidance.

Yes spark plug cable was the issue, came to know after 10 days since problem started.

Took my bike to new garage, he did earthing for my bike, by connecting a wire from battery to chassis. This reduced the problem, earlier I used to get frequent shocks and after earthing one to two times per week.

I showed it to him again, then he joined two black wires which goes to regulator below the seat together and connected to battery, and said now you will not get shock and If you get, have to replace full wiring.

As soon as I started my bike, a continuous sound started coming from left side of the bike. Then he said, its a spark cable leakage issue, sound was coming from that. He removed the cable, cleaned, wrapped some part using tape and plugged back.

After that, the sound stopped and till now didn't face any issue.

@Samarth 619 I was not getting any update till now, today morning I saw one mail from xbhp and saw your post. I think earlier notifications were going to spam.

Thanks for the concern and guidance.
