  • Not a proud owner of pulsar

I regret the day that I bought pulsar 150. It's been only 4000 km on the odo and multiple problems have cropped up in this bike.
It's very harsh to ride, has handling problems, very bad performance (accelerates slower than 100 cc commute bikes) and recently the engine has started vibrating. The vibrations are just unbearable beyond 4000 rpm.

It was really awesome for the first 3-4 months of purchase. Rode it primarily on highways at speeds of 60-70 kmph without any vibration issues. It had good pickup back then.

But now I feel it's just a piece of s**t. I loved it once but I hate it now.😬😤😈

Don't know whether it's the service center folks who ruined my bike. Problems crept up ever since the first service. The second service I topped up engine oil and it worked great for a day or two but old problems reappeared.

Or maybe everybody who told me that Bajaj makes inferior quality products was right. Should have gone for Honda instead. I have just lost all hope. Never will I recommend Bajaj to anyone. 😥

    Approved!

Such things usually have symptoms. Your bike is in warranty, get it corrected at the SVC. Else, Bajaj customer care should definitely help.

Let's avoid making sweeping statements against a company.

Did you run-in your bike properly? And for the vibs, what engine oil do you use?

Get in touch with customer care. Could be a problem with the clutch.

Clean the air filter ,tune the carburetor properly and change engine oil. Top up is not enough for highway use. Change the oil. A new bike should be easy to fix with just minor problems to be taken care of unless it has manufacturing defect.

Sad to hear this from you.....Your own words indicate a problem with SVC mechanics... A lean tuned engine will give more vibration under acceleration and higher RPMs...My guess is that the SVC mechs, might have Lean tuned for higher FE thus contributing to the problem....another area of problem is the chain and sprocket...Too tight a chain or lack of lubrication of chain can also cause vibrations...Please check for proper chain tension..Park Bike in Center Stand...Open the circular chain inspection hole in the center of chain guard, and while rotating the back wheel check for up and down movement of chain..At the tightest point, place your finger under chain and try to lift it ..if the play is less than 20mm up and down, your chain is tight and must be corrected. For Lubricating the chain try any of the available chain lube like, Rollon,Motul , Diamond etc., to see if the problem goes away.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I was a total noob to motorcycling when I bought this bike. I didn't know anything about a run in procedure and I guess I didn't follow it correctly. And since I was on the highways all the time (lived in pimpri then ) I was consistently driving at 50-60kmph. If only I had known better.

                .

50-60 is pretty fine for run-in for a 150cc bike and most of the issue you have mentioned are the most common issues that come up in every bike.
i never owned a bajaj besides a priya scooter so wont comment on quality but the issues can easily be fixed.

start from scratch, answer a few questions here and then we will isolate the problem.

1 ) what FE are you getting from that machine ?
2 ) when was the last service done ?
                3 ) did i hear a engine oil top-up or oil change ?
                4 ) was the air filter changed/cleaned ?
5 ) did you get it checked at the road side idiotic mechanics ?
6 ) park bike on main stand and try to free rotate both wheels and update
7 ) when did you last oil/lube/cleaned your chain ?
8 ) whats the current odo reading ?
9 ) consistently using same fuel bunk ?

                  1. I'm consistently getting at least 50 kmpl in city. On highways I used to get 55.
                  2. Last service was done on 14th March 2015 at around 3700 km .
                  3. They only topped up the the oil. It was not changed.
                  4. I dont remember them charging me for a new air filter. So I guess air filter was only cleaned.
                  5. I did get it checked at a mechanic but he only rode it and said pulsars ride like this. You gotta get used to it. But I know for sure that my bike was not like this. It may not be as smooth as a Unicorn but it was not as bad as it is now. I doubt the caliber of that mechanic.
                  6. Rear wheel rotates freely though at some particular point I can here chain squeak a little but i guess thats normal. Front brake disk was bent some time back but the brake pads were rubbed to adjust for that. I dont think that will be much of an issue.
                  7. I have never personally looked after the chain but it was cleaned in the last service. I have had chain becoming loose quite often. The SCV mechanic said its going up and down too much. Maybe it has worn.
                  8.Current odo reading is ~4300km .
                  9. Almost fill fuel from the same petrol bunk although sometimes from other petrol stations. I currently fill standard petrol. But I would like to mention that whenever I used Shell Super petrol my bike has run very smoothly and all the problems suddenly disappeared.

To be more precise on my problems, I have revved the engine in neutral on center stand and vibrations still persist. So I guess it is not about the chain but maybe the engine.
What I mean by harshness is that the throttle response is jerky. Give a little throttle and it accelerates with a jerk.Same with deceleration.I am unable to maintain constant speed in traffic. Hold the accelerator steady but it keeps accelerating till 4k rpm and if I reduce throttle even a little speed decreases significantly as if throttle has been closed. It maybe due to chain or some carburettors are known to cause this.

Thank you for replying but it seems that my chain was rather too loose. It was below the two marks mentioned on the chain cover. I could feel chain lash to while accelerating or decelerating but not sure if thats the only cause. So I got chain tightened by a mechanic and I fear its become too tight now. Ill have to set it myself.

Do one thing, go to a local mechanic and get your oil changed to motul 5100. And get your chain and sprockets overhauled, and lube them with any good product (I would again suggest motul).
Take care of her, your life depends on her.
Clean the chain after every 4-500 kms.

Thanks. Even I have started doubting that it may be an engine oil issue. Local mechanic told me that SVC sometimes don't keep genuine oils. Will definitely go for motul then.

It's not about genuine or authentic. Bajaj svc pushes you to use bajaj 10,000 engine oil, which is the shittiest I have ever used. Next time you go for servicing, tell them not to change the oil, and you get it changed from somewhere else.

It is too early for your bike to give you a very smooth ride. There can be many reasons for vibrations, to diagnose the one big reason you have to eliminate the points below one by one:

                          1) Carb setting faulty - Get it checked
                          2) Uneven chain slack - Lubricate it often and observe the harshness at constant speed
                          3) Tire pressure and defect - Run on recommended air pressure, we usually end up filling more. There can also be a defect in the tyre. If vibrations increase with speed irrespective of the gear you are in, the tyre could be defective
                          4) As someone has mentioned, poor engine oil quality, Bajaj svc also adds up some additives to oil that can cause harshness at high rpms.
                          5) The breakin may have got prolonged.. after the engine has warmed up.. take it to high revs often to fasten the breakin.
                          6) Something blocking the air filter - Either the quality itself or some cloth etc.
                          7) I once experienced very harsh ride and the engine rpms were fluctuating a lot. It was because of a kid who pulled the choke lever slightly. My mechanic was not able to diagnose the problem. After some five six kms I saw the choke pulled a little and taking it back to its resting position solved the problem.
                          8) Bad fuel, Water in fuel - Take out all the fuel in bottle at hitting the next reserve, put fresh fuel and then judge the ride.

                            Bro,

so sad that u are facing such issues. I think bike was screwed by service centre guys.

drop a mail on bajaj official website. Mention service centre name and names of people who u dealt with.

within two days u will receive positive response. I am telling u because i have done the same.

bajaj takes customer complaints very seriously. My disc brake was changed outside warranty on a simple complaint to bajaj. No questions asked. Service manager said "sir, ur complaint may lose someone his job", This was enough for me.

try it. And le me know.

                              7. I have never personally looked after the chain but it was cleaned in the last service. I have had chain becoming loose quite often. The SCV mechanic said its going up and down too much. Maybe it has worn. chainset on a 150cc lasts a good 25,000-30,000 km under normal usage. it cannot wear out. get it adjusted properly
8.Current odo reading is ~4300km . : thats almost new

It maybe due to chain or some carburettors are known to cause this.

if its acceleratin with jerk then there can be few reasons as below.

low fuel supply. fuel pipe/pet cock choked.
carb out of tune and running very lean as you said 50-55 kmpl.
spark plug bust. try running with a diffrent spark plug at svc and then see. ask them to replace both spark plugs and do a test run.

replies in bold above. please check the above and respond.

Clean the chain after every 4-500 kms.

hope you realize that if the valves or engine go bust the warranty will go void .

chain and sprocket overhauled ??? seriously ??? really seriously ??
