  • Problems after upsizing front tyre for Pulsar 150

    Hi,
I have a 8 months old pulsar 150/ UG3. I have recently upsized front tyre to 3.00(the one in Pulsar 200 i suppose.. same rim size).. After it, mileage has decreased. Top speed has decreased by around 5-8KMPH.. cornering and control is a bit better though.. That's all were anticipated.

But recently I felt, that the Digi meter is showing wrong distance covered. my bike reading is always different from others for a trip. I have not precisely compared it though.

any similar experience or explanation for this. or is it just my imagination?

Have u changed the tyre diameter..? for ex: if your stock bike comes with the 17 inches Tyre and if u have upgraded the diameter of the tyre size..say for suppose 18 inches...then yes definitely there will be error in the Speedo and well as in Mileage readings..
There wont be any error if have kept the Same Diameter of the tyre and if u have only changed the tyre size...the difference will only be loose in top speed and fuel efficiency..

Due when up size the front tyre, the circumference of the tire is increases. hence, the distance traveled by the front tire per resolution increases. So obviously ur speedo will show lesser values, as its calibrated for the previous tire's circimference.

so, Your your 'actual' top speed has not decreased. The Trip meter will be faulty, try to know the % of difference and use it to calculate the actual km covered.

yeah.. I have not changed the rim size..
it's the same.. 17" as far as i can remember..
I also feel, that only the reading is not correct.. rest is same..

but miss the satisfaction of seeing 120 figure on meter ..

I changed my rear tyre from a MRF one to a Dunlop one. The Dunlop tyre has much more thread and the mileage and acceleration have slightly decreased. However breaking and cornering have improved quite a bit. And yes my odo is showing incorrect readings. Each trip to my office used to be approx 29 - 30 kms. Now it shows 31 - 32 kms.

FIrr bhi... yes... it happens..and if you miss the figure of 120 on meter, try reducing the Air Pressue to 10-15 PSI...

Dunlop tyres with Soft Rubber compound.

Quite clear bro... Dunlop Tyres are usualy made of the Soft Radial compund and as you mentioned its of a thicker tread, so your frictinal quotient has increased, and impact is rightly noticed with a slight decrease in acceleration giving a better Grip and handling experience. Be sure the life of this tyre would be slightly lesser than MRF.

Regarding the odo showing incorrect readings have you gone on for a shorter tyre???? I don't see any other reason for more distance covered...!!!
                    M@verick @ thought...

Looks like you are not happy with the above explanation. Now let me try once again.

The sidewall height of each tire differs. The speedo will show correct readings only if the tires' overall diameter matches with the OE fitment. So, if you want the exact speedo readings, go for a tire with the same profile of that comes as factory fitted.

Incorrect odo readings after changing rear tire? IMPOSSIBLE!
