  • Help me! Bajaj CT 100! Bajaj Service center!

    Hi friends,

    here i go....

My brother had a Bajaj CT100, which i'm using it for commuting now-a-days. It has been 3.5k kms since oil change, so left it for service day before yesterday at the authorised service center in Vadapalani, chennai.I asked them to replaced the rear sprocket as it was damaged, complained them about the vibrations above 40kmph, which popped up after the last service. Ask them do to the regular service .

he called up today and told me that the engine needed to be opened and checked and it will cost around 10k. When i askd him what was the problem he said that does'nt know what is, but gives a quote for 10k....sounds suspicious.

i don't understand the point.....could this be reason for the vibrations,

as of now asked them to do the normal service and return it back.

I want to see if really there is any probs with the engine, it has clocked around 35k kms..

any suggestions guys, any way i could check if there is really any prob with the bike?

I had an '88 model RX100... after the 20 years it had an engine problem and i showed it in a workshop and the guy told me the engine must be reworked and it will cost 4000-6000Rs/-... For full work of an RX100 (changing cylinder kit, piston, piston rings etc..), 8000Rs/- will be the maximum amount...

Don't know the case of a CD100... but this 10,000Rs/- seems to be......

even i doubt it bro.....normally bajaj is famous for low-priced bikes and spares compared to its competitors...

and the SS guyz does'nt even know what the prob is, even before that they give a quote for 10k....does'nt that sound a bit fishy

yeah she's giving me a lot of trouble now-a-days,my parents are asking me to sell her as i got my R15, but i don't get the guts to sell her nor my bro does.....she helped us all the time we needed.....

anyways getting back to the topic, she does'nt seem like having any prob with the engine as per me, as i'm not much experienced with engines...i thought xbhpians can help me out with the symptoms.....

looking at the 10K thing they quoted you for the whole bore kit and crank kit... possibly the timing chain, valves and labour are added in. that almost completes the changeable parts in the engine

Get your bike checked elsewhere and get a confirmation.

Also, it would be useful to get hold of a good mechanic outside and get the job done... Now a days over boring by .25mm without failure is possible and also if there is ply in the crank connecting rod, only that and the crank bearings can be changed. change the timing chain & valves too... all this shouldn't cost you more than 4K, with labour.

Unfortunately, the companies do not sell individual parts and push the complete kits... so do the authorized service centers.

yeah....I just got the bike from the SS...when i questioned him that how come you can say it'll cost 10k without even knowing what the problem is, he said "sir, i gave you the cost for the bore,piston,crankshaft....ella wear n tear laam aagi irukkum {"engine who've had wear n tear"(thats the best way i can translate, wonder where he got that word)}" to open up the engine he'll cost Rs1500 as labour, he added.

thanks for the info you've given, i'll better check it up with a good mechanic and see what can be done

one more thing, when i started the bike, i heard some cut-cut noise from the engine, never heard it before, when i asked him he said its normal and will disappear when the engine heats up and well it did, but it did'nt appear before i left the bike for service....
